Hey Roadies! Katrina on the Maya Road blog today, to share one of my favorite things to do, alter items. I love taking a plain piece and making it fun. Today I have an altered chicken wire frame that I picked up at one of my local crafting stores.
First of all, I painted my frame with chalkboard paint in white. It started off as plain wood and I almost left it that way, but then I change my mind! Then I had the fun of going thru my Maya Road goodies and picking out some things I wanted to work with. I actually started with the Twine in Shine Gold and the Mini Clothes Pins in White. I knew I wanted to hang my picture and these were the perfect items to achieve that with. Bonus, it make it easier to attach the picture to the chicken wire!
I figured out placement for my twine and then tied it with a knot. I covered that by making a separate bow and attaching over the knot. I used a Sunny Day Clip for my sun and altered it with that fun embossing technique that Jocelyn had on the blog a while back. (You can find that posting HERE).
And the Burlap Medallion Mum with a couple of Vintage Pink Pearl pins stuck in it, was begging to go in the bottom corner. I teamed it up with one of the Blackboard Kraft tags. I used a white glitter brush pen over the surface of the tag, to give it that erased chalkboard feel. I added a sticker with some foam adhesive and some sequins.
At the end, I decided wanted to add a butterfly and this one from the Butterfly Chipboard set was the perfect little touch on the outside of the frame. I love that you can layer these chipboard pieces or just use them individually!
It's so easy to altered something with Maya Road products, give it try! You might just find that you start looking at "stuff" in a different way!
