We are about to kick off  a great week this week pairing with Paper Crafter's Library. This time we decided to do something different, so we created a fun challenge for the designers. Each designer was sent the same ten items:

Ship A'hoy!

Hi Roadies, Angella here from across the seas to bring you my  banner book boat !

True to style,  I just had to jump out of the box with the banner book to create this cute boat.

It is as easy as 1. 2. 3.  Grab a Mixed Scallop triangle banner Album and wood mini skinny spools .

 

      

1. Firstly lay your pages down to form the boat shape, you can tape the peices together to make secure.

2. Glue spools down onto the base of your boat, then glue another layer of pages
on top of the spools to give the 3D effect of your project ! fill in your sides with  strips of paper or ribbon .

3. Cover with pattern paper and decorate!

See so easy, perfect for party table decoration, or leave a opening at top and fill with lollies

With a little bit of imagination, you can create anything . When creating projects I love to see how i can change things to make it more outside the square! My hubby always say's I create  my projects very much like my personality ... Sometime I don't know if he means it in a good way or a bad way.. so i am going to take it the positive way LOL!!!

More Tags in a Frame

Hey everyone!  I know I've posted a project similar to this before, but I just can't get enough of making these!

This time, both of my kids are getting their time in the spotlight, and I can't think of anything better to pair them with, than all of the gorgeous embellishments that Maya  Road offers! 

And you can see exactly what I mean with these close up photos that highlights so many of the ways to use chipboard, kraft, trinket flowers, pins, ribbons, and whatever other Maya Road goodies you can get your hands on!

One of my favorites from the latest CHA Winter release last month are these cute vintage wooden bunnies.  I think it goes with this theme just so perfectly!

And these adorable kraft owls...oy, too cute!!

And did you happen to see the new kraft pin tags?  I just can not get enough of these. 

See what I mean?  Love this!  This project really comes together rather quickly.  The backless frame can be purchased at any of your local hobby stores, and then literally, just put some screws right into the back of the frame to hold your brand new Maya Road colored twine.  Cut your tags, grab your pictures, your patterned paper, and pile up all of the Maya Road embellishments that you can find.  I promise you, it will all come together quickly!!  I hope you enjoyed seeing another project with the frame. :)  Just goes to show you how you can dress up little 2"x3" tags so cutely!!

Wrap Bracelet

I'm sure you all have seen the popular wrap bracelets in stores. I know I've seen them all over. And let me tell ya they are super easy to recreate so I thought I would show you how to make one using all the Maya Road Trinket Buttons. 

Supplies Needed: 3 yrds. Waxed Linen, 2 - Beads, 30 Buttons (wraps around wrist 3 times)

Tools Needed: Scissors

Instructions:

• Using your scissors cut three yards of waxed linen (I've found colors in black, brown and ecru)
• Fold the waxed linen in half and create a loop just large enough for your closure button to go in and out, then make a knot to secure the loop.

• Thread one button onto the thread using ONE STRAND of the waxed linen. Create a knot to secure the button in place.

• Next, thread the second button using the piece of waxed linen you did not use when threading the first button, tie a knot to secure the button and repeat this process until you have all the buttons on the waxed linen.

• Once you are finished threading the beads tie a knot to secure the last button.
• Now thread a bead on the end of each waxed linen strand and secure each bead with a knot at the base of the bead.

And here is how it looks when worn. This photo was taken of Caroline by Ronda Palazzari when we were all at ScrapFest. I brough mini kits for Caroline, Ronda and Emily so they could make and wear their own. Our bracelets were a huge hit by all who saw them.

I hope you give them a try. They are fun and very addicting to create.

A Giveaway

Hi everyone! 

Today I wanted to offer a Maya Roadie one spot in my upcoming Big Picture Classes workshop called Reclaiming My Time.

“You will never find time for anything. If you want time, you must make it.”

If you ask me, time is the great equalizer. Yes some of us get to live longer than others and the very few (lucky) don’t have to work at all. But, for the rest of us, we each get 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That’s 1,440 minutes every single day. Let’s say you sleep a generous 8 hours a day; that still leaves you with 960 precious minutes every day. How you spend those minutes adds up to how you spend your days. And those add up to how you spend your months. And the months, to years. And how you spend your years is how you spend your life. The one life that you get to have.

So, wouldn’t you want to spend those 960 minutes doing the things you most love doing? The things that give you the most joy, love, growth, prosperity, and happiness?

Well, that’s what this workshop is about. It’s about taking the time to figure out what we do with our time and see how well it aligns with what we would like to do with our life. Or at least with 2010. (Because, remember, how you spend your year is how you spend your life.) 

This workshop is 4-weeks long but it's spread over December and January. To give you room to observe the holidays but still allow you to start the new year with greater awareness and tangbile ways to spend your minutes more meaningfully. The workshop will also stay open for all of 2012 with monthly check-ins with me to ensure that you're staying on the path you've created for yourself.

Join in the chalkboard fun!

Alright, I guess I might be late to the party - I read lots of DIY-projects involving chalkboard paint like, a year ago or more - but only recently actually got to play with it myself. But my oh my - what great fun you can have with just a little chalkboard paint! Truly!

For this project, I used the Pennant Chipboard Album.

Here's the instructions, although it's fairly easy to do so you shouldn't really need instructions =)

1. Find the clean edged chipboard and apply chalkboard paint on it as per its instructions (the paint, that is. I have no idea if all chalkboard paint acts the same :) ). For mine I tested it both with and without gessoing the chipboard. I think I actually prefer to do this without gessoing the chipboard - without it took me two layers of chalkboard paint, with gesso I needed three layers for a proper coverage.

2. Find the scalloped chipboard and either spray or paint it. The front chalkboard was covered in orange acrylic paint, the back chalkboard was covered in Maya Mist (one layer of Bublegum Metallic Mist then topped off with Dragon Fruit Pink Mist). Note: I adhered the chalkboard layer upon the scalloped chipboard, hence didn't need to paint/mist all of the chipboard, only the scalloped part.

3. Find some ribbon (here: Candy Striped Ribbon) or twine to decorate the top of the chalkboard. Optional: I wanted to decorate the twine some by adding small, cute trinkets to it: Wooden Mini Spools and Trinket Beads: Hearts and Butterflies.

4: I decided to attach the chalk pen to the chalkboard. This by securing the twine to a wooden button before hot gluing the chalk pen to the button.Tip: Depending on whether your kid is right or left handed - make sure the twine is on the "right" side for your kid.

There you have it - an easy peasy chalkboard project your kid will love! Mine sure did (aged 6 and 10)! And - it really didn't take that long to assemble - like 90% of the effort was spent waiting for paint&mist to dry.

Hope you enjoyed this mini-inspiration project and is now tempted to try it yourself. Remember - just because it says it's a mini album doesn't mean it have to be used for that, you know! :)

Creating various looks with Mists...

Sometimes (or well, ok - oftentimes) - it's simply just fun to create, to play - without having to think about a socalled real purpose. That's why I love the 4 by 4 inch canvas, which gives me just enough place to play with without making me feel like "hmm ok, what to add now?" at any stage.

Here I decided to have a go and utilize the Mixed Shapes Mini Chipboard Set, using the rounded tiles from this set and dress them up with patterned paper. I then decided to add one chipboard-shape per tile (and a wooden button - love these so had to add one!), and just arrange them to create a minicanvas which can easily be gifted to younger children as decoration for their rooms.

For some of the chipboards, like the bird and the cup - I gessoed them first before spraying Maya Mist upon them. While the bird was sprayed with Popsicle Blue Mist from afar just once, creating the splatches and splotches you can see on the bird, the cup was thoroughly sprayed with Granny Smith Apple Green Mist then immediately had the mist removed by tapping a sheet of tissue paper/soft cloth to yield that soft, washed look.

And as you can from the wooden button, I love to create this whitewashed, random look by applying very little and almost dried out gesso/paint with my fingers randomly on the button. I almost think I prefer the buttons like this, as pretty much all my past buttons have the same look!

As for a more intense, almost satinlike look, just spray away multiple times with the mist upon a raw piece of chipboard, like on this cat (Earl Grey Mist - lovely!) or the top left star or right bottom heart (Dragon Fruit Pink Mist). Notice the difference in intensity when sprayed on raw chipboard and on gessoed (cupcake, middle)? Yes, it's the same color used - just upon different surfaces :)
