Maya Road + Paper Crafter's Library Blog Swap Day 3

Hi Roadies, Sarah here from Sunny Townsville. I am excited to share my challenge project with you all. It was a great challenge with fantastic items!

So this is my creation  :

I used the Scallop Basic Album, which I love, as it has both chipboard pages and craft.

These are the 10 items we had to use:

I used the zipper trim to create leaves, i used the same principles used in the Zipper Trim Mini Butterfly Tutorial 1 They turned out great!

 

I have a secret love of mini kraft tags.....LOVE THEM!!! I wanted to try something a little different so I thought it would look fantastic all layered over each other.

Above I have used the stamp, blossom flower and kraft tag (which I have cut to form a leaf. The stamped Butterflies also have extra ink and glossy accent.

Hi Roadies, Angella here from across the seas to bring you my  banner book boat !

True to style,  I just had to jump out of the box with the banner book to create this cute boat.

I - I Matey

 

It is as easy as 1. 2. 3.  Grab a Mixed Scallop triangle banner Album and wood mini skinny spools .

 

      

1. Firstly lay your pages down to form the boat shape, you can tape the peices together to make secure.

2. Glue spools down onto the base of your boat, then glue another layer of pages
on top of the spools to give the 3D effect of your project ! fill in your sides with  strips of paper or ribbon .

3. Cover with pattern paper and decorate!

See so easy, perfect for party table decoration, or leave a opening at top and fill with lollies

So next time you pick up a Maya Road banner book, take a twist and see what you can create.

Mini Album Love

Hi roadies, its Sarah here from hot and sunny North Queensland and I wanted to share a mini album that I have LOVED making!! In fact I just love mini albums! I love all the Maya Road Coaster Albums as they are so easy to use and can mix and match.

This mini album features pictures from our recent trip, I got index pictures made up cause I took so many and have put them to use in this album. So of the Maya Road products I have used include; Scroll frame coaster album, Butterflies mini chipboard set, Butterfly chipboard set, Wooden spools, Trinket pins antique gem and tiny Banner chipboard bits, and the mini canvas tag pieces.

I also have a few items that you can hardly see, but I like layers so you will also find vintage doilies and kraft doilies.

A Crafty Mini Album

Hey Roadies!  It's Melissa here, and I am so excited to be sharing with you, one of the last (but not least!), projects I created for this past Winter CHA.  I wanted to create a mini-album just for me...something to represent my love of crafting in its so many different forms.  I'm sure you can relate!

Now, I love being creative artistically, just never mind the fact I'm not too terribly creative verbally, as represented by my title, "heart to craft."  Haha!  I used the 4" Canvas Binder, which was so cool, because it also came with canvas pages!  I also went crazy with my cover...grabbing different Maya Road chipboard alphabets, a cut piece from the Scallop Frames Chipboard (to make my large "C"), a selection of some Trinket Blossoms, the new Large Ric Rac, Vintage Wood Tiny Ruler, Pink Vintage Tape Measure Trim, and finally, fun Maya Road trims from the ribbon collection.

I jam packed my album with goodies, so much so, it couldn't stay closed.  Aren't those kinds of mini-albums just the best?!

But I'm sure you're ready to some of the inside, right?!

My "homemade" page on the inside cover...because everything is better homemade.  I used one of my favorite Maya Road stamp sets, Cute as a Button.  I love this stamp set! (You've seen me make a card with this one before ;))

The next page representing my trinkets nearest and dearest to me...love my ever-growing vintage stash.

And I could NOT go without including one of the new Vintage Burlap Treasure Bags here.  Just dressed it up a bit and it's ready to tuck away the savory-est of treasures. :)

And on the backside, my other love of cameos.  I swear, I fall hook, line, and sinker into any trend flung at me...but cameos have really stuck.

LOVE that new Vintage Wood Bird stamped with the new Houndstooth Singleton stamp.  It came out sooo beautifully!

And finally, a very distant hobby, but still so near to my crafting, is sewing.  Ok, I mainly do sewing on my projects, but it's still sewing!! :)

And that is it....so far. Always more room to add on.

Star Canvas Baby Album

The possibilities with canvas are endless. Among the many many things I love about Maya Road, I absolutely adore all the canvas products. Canvas is a wonderful base for all manner of artistic and creative projects. I love the frayed edges, the way you can stitch it and it's a wonderful alternative to paper for a unique album.

One of my latest album projects uses the Canvas Star Coaster Album. It's a sweet little album that fits in the palm of your hand and I thought it would be a darling mini baby scrapbook for one of my children.

Canvas albums are easy to add color to and each page of this album has been misted with Green Apple Maya Mist and/or Blue Agave Metallic Mist. It's easy to mist a design onto a page by using a template or mask over the canvas before misting.

 

Bottlecaps make a perfect accent for the front cover of albums. This Super Mega Bottle Cap is trimmed with Sky Blue Zipper Trim and Earl Grey Tulle Pleat Trim. The inside is filled with a cluster of embellishments: Green Gingham Point Blossoms, Grey Velvet Pleats flowers, a White Time Flies Kraft Clock, White Star Trinket Pins, Black Mini Ticket Strip Transparencies and Vintage Flag Kraft Pins.

The Foundation Chipboard set makes a great frame for photos. This one is stained and inked and then accented with a crown from the Crowns Mini Chipboard Set and trimmed with some Maya Road Crochet Trim.

 

Maya Road stamps also make a great accent on a canvas album. This page is stamped with the Vintage Scale and Balance stamp. It's personalized with a name spelled with the Jonathon Mini Chipboard Alphabet.

 

Kraft Notes and Envelopes make a great place to journal and hide little bits of memorabilia. One of my favorite Maya Road stamp sets is the Spool Sentiments stamp set which decorates this envelope along with a Green Resin Blossom.

To finish off, here's a little peek at the misting on the back of the album.

My Bucket List Mini Album

Hello Roadies, Ronda here.  Today i want to show you my Bucket List mini.  It is made from the Beach Pail Chipboard Album.   Instead of going with a beachy theme, i decided to take it in a different direction and make it a place to capture some of my bucket list items.  It was fun to create all the layers.  I have a confession too.  I have said before i didn't like creating with purple.  I was wrong.  I just like creating with rich plumy purple, like eggplant purple Maya Mist.   i love it paired with the Popsicle blue and Sunflower yellow.  Here's a look at the album and some of the interior pages:

As you can see, i repeated my color palette throughout the pages using trims & flowers to accent my pages.  I first covered the background in patterned paper and then change up the look a bit with lots of mists.  I love how the white ledger transparencies added interesting pops of shapes.  Who says they have to stay rectangles or squares.  Cut them into shapes and outline with a white pen for a cool effect.

With a little bit of imagination, you can create anything . When creating projects I love to see how i can change things to make it more outside the square! My hubby always say's I create  my projects very much like my personality ... Sometime I don't know if he means it in a good way or a bad way.. so i am going to take it the positive way LOL!!!

Maya Road tape album!

I am always on the lookout for different ways to accessorize my Maya Road albums and today's post I will share with you my "tape" book. This little album includes one of my favorite albums, Maya Mist, Maya Road embellishments, masking tape, and duct tape.

First I took the 3-ring Square Round Tab Chipboard album and cut off the tabs. Next I covered each page with either duct tape or masking tape! On the cover I applied some Maya Road white rub ons knowing that by adding color over top I would get a resist looking effect.

Next I used alcohol inks to color the duct tape. Just put some ink on a cotton ball and work the color into the tape. Maya Mist works best on masking tape (which is a bit more porous). Same technique as will the duct tape. You can also stamp on the colored masking tape to make your own washi tape!

Another technique I used was stencils/paste. I  colored my paste with several drops Maya Mist and then using a stencil, applied it to my pages for some dimension. I also colored Maya Road's clear tickets with alcohol inks.

Once your pages are put together it is time to add the embellishments. I used Maya Road's Tulle Pleat trim and Frayed Edge Pleat Trim in Cherry to embellish. I lined the inside of Maya Road Kraft Envelopes after spraying them with Maya Mist (Cherry), and created a flower.

I added lots of other Maya Road goodies too like Kraft Doilies and envelopes (colored with Maya Mist and painted with acrylic paint), Mini ticket strips in clear (colored with alcohol inks), Vintage Pink Tape trim, and Wooden Doilies.

Once my pages were embellished I used my Bind-it-all to bind my album. I hope this post has inspired you to make your own "tape" album using Maya Road's incredible selection of products.

For the Love of Zipper Trim

Hello everyone!  Have you noticed the latest craze? Zipper Trim is hot in fashion.  You can find it in purses, shoes, clothing, etc.  It is also a big trend in crafting too.  There are so many different ways to use it.  I wanted to share with you a few ideas how to implement it in your own crafts and scrapbook pages. 

Have you seen all the zipper flowers we have created at Maya Road?  Caroline has a multitude of zipper trim videos up at the Maya Road You Tube Channel. 

My personal favorite is the peacock like flower she created in this picture.  I got to wear it at scrapfest.  There is a pin hot glued to the back of it and i attached it to my headband.  So much fun.

As you can see there are many different flowers you can create with the zipper trim.  But what to do with them besides create a stellar wall decor?  Attach a pin to them and add them to a purse, scarf, a canvas messenger bag, headband.  Use them on the front cover of a mini album.  Trim the zipper down and make smaller flowers for a layout.  So many different possibilities.

Another way to add in some zipper trim is to sew it to another piece as an accent.  On my mini album cover i use a canvas heart and stitched the sunshine yellow trim to pop the heart. 

I have a teen boy.  Did you notice there isn't a large variety of teen boy embellishments?  Insert Maya Road Zipper trim.  It reminds me of the jeans laying on his bedroom floor.  Snip it in small pieces and tuck it into your paper.  Stitch it down for a cool finishing touch.

It works beautifully in mini albums too.  On the front cover i trimmed it down to have just a little bit of black showing with the zipper teeth.  Inside my mini album it adorns all the pages bring them together with a common element even though i varied the color.

Guess what?  It works on girl pages too.  Lay down some layers of colors using both trims and patterned papers.  The Sunshine yellow was just the right pop color.

Of course you can join the fashion craze too!  Grab one of the new canvas cuff's from Maya road and cover it your favorite zipper trims. 

You can also turn it into your favorite shapes like the above butterflies which again can adorn a purse, scarf, a canvas messenger bag, headband, tag, mini album, or front cover of a large album.  You can see how to create these butterflies up on the Maya Road You Tube Channel.

Something Made for the Heart

Hey there Roadies!  I hope you have been enjoying all of the yummy Maya Road peeks over on the Maya Road Company blog for what is being released RIGHT NOW over at CHA in California.  There is a prize pack up for grabs, so you will definitely want to check it out, you will not be disappointed!
