Maya Road has some fabulous canvas products and one of my favorite is the dress form canvas pieces. For CHA I wanted to do something a little different than making an album and this project is what I came up with. A dimensional dress form featuring many Maya Road goodies!
Here is what you will need: Maya Road dress form canvas pieces, Maya Road Organza Roses Ribbon (small and large), Maya Road crystal pins, red heart pins, Maya Road black pleated ribbon, Maya Road Doily Border stamps, Maya Road pleated and gingham ribbon, tea bags, stamping ink, floss, fabric adhesive, fiberfill, pencil, fabric, fabric stiffener, spool.
First boil several tea bags in a pot of water. I probably used 8-10 bags. Add your canvas pieces to the dye water and let soak. I put something heavy on top of them to keep them completely immersed in the dye. When dry, stamp with the MR doily banner stamp. Hand stitch with floss (if desired).
I used the bottom of the canvas dress form as a template and cut a piece of fabric to fit the base of the canvas. I applied this piece to the dress form and then gave it a coat of fabric stiffener. This just gives the project a bit more stability. Using a #2 pencil I covered it with Maya Road ribbon. Apply your organza ribbon to the spool and you are ready construct the dimensional dress form.
Using fabric glue adhere your two canvas pieces together. (I used clothespins to help me hold edges together while the glue was drying). Make sure to leave an opening at the bottom of the form. This will be where your "pencil stand" will be. Once it is dry, add your fiberfill and stuff the dress form and glue the bottom of the form shut. Add the form to the spool and add your embellishments! Since the canvas project is stuffed it is so fun to stick those Maya Road pins right in the form! Just stick them to add some decoration. This project would also make a unique pin cushion gift for someone!
I hope you enjoyed this project and are inspired to make something using the incredible products from Maya Road!!! Shelley Haganman
