Hello! Emily here, I'm one of the three new DT members announced last week. I'm very happy to be a part of Maya Road, it's done wonders for my creativity level to just play with all the fun products we offer. I put together this sweet little collage in the Vintage Metal Heart Tart tin, and thought I'd share the process with you.
You get the benefit of a step-by-step, I only wish it had been this easy to put it together myself. Something this small shouldn't take you a couple of hours, but moving things around, making sure things look right takes me a lot of time! Hopefully you'll put something like this together quicker than I did by using these instructions.
I've been stumped by how to fill these tins, but then realized they were just like an ATC card, only in the shape of a heart. So I went to Pinterest and searched for ATCs, studied how they were put together and went to work on my own heart shaped ATC. Maya Road's mini chipboards are perfect for this kind of project!

First off, I traced the shape of the tin onto some patterned paper and cut it out. Yes, this did take some time and fastidious trimming, but you don't have to be too exact because once the paper fit into the heart, I added a bit of twine to cover up any spots I may have messed up.
Secondly, I took a word sticker from Simple Stories, cut it up (something you see all the time on ATCs, individual words), and mounted a couple of the words on foam.
Then, I punched a doily, applied it to the top right side of the heart.
Next, I took the last word of the phrase and glued some of the Trinkets Ribbon in Sand to the back of it and notched the ends. I tucked this under the flower sticker, allowing the flower petal to act as the "U" in the word "Adventure."
I overlapped this grouping slightly with the doily, so the word "Adventure" was in the middle of the heart.

I covered a chipboard bird from the Birds with Cages Mini set with paper and filed the edges down. I assembled the wing the same way, attached it to the body, then placed the bird to the left side of the heart.

I adhered the rest of the phrase in a slightly askew manner, added some sequins and pearls and finished the collage with a Trinket Star Pin, tied with some floss.

My final step was to add something to hang the tin with, accomplished by adhering some ExtremeTac Mounting Squares by Glue Arts to the back of the tin and adding a length of the same Trinket Ribbon in Sand.

And there you are, A sweet little heart tin to encourage and inspire. Thanks for checking out the blog today!
