"You Are..." Canvas Mini by Dina

Hello, Roadies...Dina here to share a little canvas mini album I did for summer CHA. Maya Mist and canvas are a match made in heaven, aren't they?

When I mix & match Maya Mist colors, I make sure to use colors that don't turn brown & muddy when they mix. Colors that turn brown when mixed together are blue and orange, green and red, and purple and yellow. Instead, I use colors that will make another nice color when they mix. I used Fig Magenta and Lemon Metallic. When they mix, they make a lovely orange. I also used Popsicle Blue and Lemon Metallic. They make a cool green when they mix.

I started each page with a swatch of white acrylic gesso (just covering about 1/3 of each page). When you mist over dried gesso, you get a different look than than the canvas. You get a tone-on-tone look without any work. I love techniques that are easy!

I used Silver mist to mist the scalloped chipboard frames. I decorated the album simply with the You Are stamps, the new Vintage Kraft Flag pins, and Vintage Wood Birds. I couldn't resist adding bits of Ecru Mega RicRac, too.

Hi Roadies, Angella here from accross the ways, I hope I have warmed you up for my latest creation I created for CHA... He' got the whole world in his hands, as you can guess it is all about my son Robbie ! as he is my world and sometimes we have need to remember this beautiful world we live in. The world is what we make it, sometimes you have grab it and make the most of what you have and be thankful.

Created using Maya Mists  a mixture of colours, Antique copper, brown with some blues and greens . Note the new Metal Antique butterfly, Wood feather friends, Kraft flag pin, Our home metals, twine, Also we have Chipboard hands and heart set, Chipboard Scallop frames

pearl trinket pins, twine, Satin pleated edging, Trinket ribbon, Vintage tiny rulers, felt pearl posies, kraft tickets, frame journalling tags, and the chipboard wavy layerable banners.

So Roadies, grab yourself a world globe cover it with gesso or gel medium and mist away !

Life is Magical

Hi everyone!

Karen here. Now that the CHA show is over, I wanted to share one of my projects with you. For the last few years, each of the design team members has been making a canvas with their photo on it. The only requirements are that it's a specific canvas and that it has to have a photo of you on it. Here is the one I did for the last show. 

Here's what I did for this show:

I wanted to do something fun. As I looked at my drawer of supplies, the trim just stood out to me and looked like waves. I cut medium sized pieces and used several different blue and blue-green sprays and layered them to create the feel of waves. 

Once I had the waves, it was easy to keep going. I painted my sky using sprays and a baby wipe. Then I added a chipboard bird and a wooden one.  

Then I added some white clouds and cut off one piece of the Organza Primrose trim and sprayed it to create my son. 

Some burlap trim, canvas triangle banners, and a piece of the canvas pendant banner album and my boat was done. And my final step was to add the photo and the title.

Fun with Tags and Canvas

Hey there Roadies! 

It's Melissa here and I'm thrilled to be able to share with you some of my projects that were at summer CHA just last week! First up, a couple of tags for the show, the first featuring a precious baby and all the trimmings...

I spy some of the new Alterable Bingo Motifs!  I colored the heart portion pink and sugared it.

Sooo delicate and sweet! But, how about this one?

It features the new stamp set, You Are singleton stamp set and that huge fluffy gorgeous vintagy flower that I just can't get enough of.  You will definitely want your own set of Cream Vintage Edge Mums.  I spritzed mine with Pink Ginger Maya Mist.

And that tulle!!!  Oh my I just can't stand it!!  That is the new Seafoam Blue Tu-Tu Tulle.

Finally...each year, the designers make a canvas to display at the show.  I tell ya, I'm not hugely artistic with paints, gesso, and free-hand drawings. :)  I went pretty clean and simple!

I used the chipboard from Love Notes and covered them with patterned paper.  I then placed some of my favorite embellishments sporadically about. 

Can you see the new floral fabric tape?  LOVE IT!!!  It is called Country Rose Fabric Tape, and you can see all of these new items I'm listing out in the catalog link HERE.

Love those new delicate Felt Pearl Posies!!  Ok, last picture, I promise!

Here I coupled one of the Vintage Wood Mini Butterflies backed by a Mini Canvas Butterfly Piece.

A Layout to Share

Hi Roadies, Sarah Moore here today. I am sure you are all overwhelmed by all the yummy new release items we have been seeing! AMAZING new stuff to play with.

Today I am sharing a layout with you all! Thats a big change for me. AND I have been busy playing with different textures as well!

Items needed to complete this Page are as follows:

The first step obce the paper base was assembled is to mix up some of the mist. I added some to a plastic container as per picture below:

 

Now add a small amount of the texture paint to the plasic container and mix up:

I then used a stencil to add it to the layout.

I used this in 2 places on the layout, set aside and allow to dry.

Cover assorted pieces of the hexagons in patterned paper, canvas and Kraft, then add to your layout

Use the mist to spray your title and add to layout, then coat with Crackle Accent. Also use the mist to spray your white flower then attach to the layout.

Mount a 6 x 4 inch photo to cream cardstock then attach to page, I added some plain pink cardstock as well, slightly under the photo.

Add the flower vine and then add Maya Road Blossoms and resin Flower. Alsi attach your vintage butterfly to a hexagon shape. I added mine to one I covered with Kraft.

 Add the ribbon to layout as per picture

You will also notice that I have sprayed some mist directly onto the layout, for some extra texture.

I love that not all the circles are perfect!

To finish my layout off I placed it in a 12 x 12 frame! I hope you all love this technique as much as me!

Measure Up

Hi Roadies. Julia here.

One of my favorite Maya Road products in their  Vintage Tape Measure Trim Ribbon. I just can't get enough. In fact I've gone through so many yards of it I just can't keep track.

The Vintage Tape Measure Trim can be used as a ribbon, as a border, formed into a flower and used for a myriad of other ideas. Today I have a couple cards to share featuring this trim that I hope will inspire you to try it out for yourself.

My first card uses the trim as a wrapped banner idea. It's wrapped around one of the Maya Road Kraft Envelopes. I like using a hot glue gun when working with the Tape Masure Trim to hold it securely in place. Both sides of this trim are printed, one in imperial and the other metric, which makes it perfect for two sided folds.

To add in some sweet embellishments, I've turned to some more Maya Road faves... Medium Leaves, Vintage Pearl Butterfly Trinket Pins, Vintage Findings Pearl Centers and Saffron Twine Cording. On the Mini Tag Canvas Piece you can get a look at the new Ornate Botanicals Stamp Set.

 

 My second card came about as I played around with folding some Vintage Tape Measure Trim. A few quick folds turns it into a trendy chevron border. Once again I've turned to a hot glue gun to hold it all in place. I've added in the White Vintage Tape Measure Trim for this card for variation of color.

Maya Road goodies always work together so seamlessly. Here I've paired up White Kraft Large Ticket Strips, Yellow Country Gingham Posies, Trinket Buttons, Vintage Paper Posies and Heart Trinket Pins.

that is truer than true.  There is no one alive that is youer than You."

I love that quote written by Dr. Suess.  It is perfect for teaching little ones that they are special & unique and its a good reminder for the rest of us too.  Today I am sharing a layout that I made that features the quote and a photo of my precious new baby grandson who just turned 4 months old.  I am so in love with him!  I had fun making a layout with Maya Road products that can be altered to be just as unique as he is.  That's one of  my favorite things about Maya Road!

I used the new Hexagons Chipboard that you can see in the raw form HERE.  Love them!  I used both paint and patterned papers on mine.  Some were layered and one I used to frame one of the "What a Hoot" black rub ons.

The "Today" title is made from the new "Lisa Uppercase Alphabets" that are a perfect 2" tall size.  Various other Maya Road chipboards were used too... because I can never use enough of them on any given project ;-)

One of the best elements on my page (in my opinion) is that awesome new "Vintage Wallpaper" Stamp Set.  Oh my!!!!  I can't stop using this little set.  It is perfect for everything and more.  You can see a close up below that I embossed with white.  I also embossed one of the other pieces, but used black powder.

Wedding Sampler Album

This album is a wedding sampler album documenting my and Alan's wedding day and I love how it turned out. I created it using the new 4" Binder Linen Album. Which is now my favorite Maya Road album. Notice the metal key, it’s another favorite of mine in this release, it is their new Antique Room Key. The tulle around the Linen Heart is their new Tu-Tu Tulle in Seafoam Blue. This color is gorgeous! 

I also love all the sparkle from the sil­ver glass glit­ter, Cherry Red Maya Glit­ter and rhine­stone trim. I think these mixed with vin­tage shell but­tons look amazing.

The inside of the 4" Binder Linen Album comes with 3 linen pages and 3 chipboard pages. I hand stiched one side of each linen page and either attached a linen page to a chipboard page or covered the chipboard pages with a tattered and torn vintage quilt made by my great great aunts.

Fly Canvas

Hello Roadies, Ronda here to share with you an awesome canvas created by Andrea Walford of the Paper Crafter's Library.  Andrea explains how she created this masterpiece.

Here's a look at how Andrea created it in her words. 

I embedded the Jonathan Alphabet letters in modelling paste on a 6" x 6" canvas - using random letters, except for the title {fly} which I positioned in the bottom left corner.  I then covered the letters in about 6 layers of gesso.  I painted the canvas with watered down Maya Mists using a paint brush (rather than misting as you get more control), and then stamped a couple of texture stamps in black. I stamped the butterflies onto an acetate transparency and then cut them out and stuck them to the canvas with a clear drying glue. I outlined the word {fly} to make it stand out. The words were typed on the computer and collaged onto the canvas.

So very beautiful.  I love the colors with the pops of black on the background.  It really shows how versatile Maya Mist can be on all your mixed media projects.  Thank you Andrea so much for sharing this stunning canvas with us.  Make sure you check out the Paper Crafter's Library for tons of techniques and tutorials.

Hi Roadies!

Ania here w/...uhm...a little project that a 5th grader kid could have done way better, but hey, just because I am a scrapbooker doesn't mean I'm particulary crafty in other fields, and just because I have a sewing machine doesn't mean I use it for stuff other than paper sewing!!

But - I'm trying, and you see - right before we went off on a longer vacation I needed a storage box for this cardgame (Set - which by the way is the BEST card game out there ever.....for kids and grown ups alike..it's like a mini mensa test :p....our then six year old saw combinations we didn't see, and vice versa...so fun!).

Right. So I was forced to imrprovise a felt bag for this stack of cards.

A little wrapping, machine sewing, then hand sewing...as I said..a child could have done it better, but hey, I'm a novice and pretty proud of my forced solution!

I even decided to play with the fun gelato pens (Yellow-orange colorgroup - BEST COLORCOMBO EVER!). Smoshed it around the canvas, sprayed Maya Iridescent Pearl Mist over and smoshed some more and set the color w/ a heating gun. Vibrant, fun colorhues.

I sure like the color combo here...the orange butterfly against the lovely turquiose felt, combined w/the neutral hues from the wooden butterfly and the burlap ribbon. Also like the fact that there's so different fabrics going on here - burlap, canvas, felt....

Sure..the design and execution of the little bag/pouch could have been better...but...as I said..I don't do this on a regular basis (or, like - ever) - so I'm proud!
