Hello sweet Maya Road friends! I'm so glad that you stopped by. Today I want to show you a little mini album that I made with the thought in mind to give it to a friend for their birthday. It doesn't have any photos, but they could add some because there are some empty patterned paper pages next to each embellished page. I made this album because of some birthday books that I received when I was a teenager. They had quotes and poems inside and I thought that they were so cool with their pretty pictures and sweet words of encouragement.
I tend to be a collector of poems and quotes (I started that too when I was a teenager.) My first journal was made in my 7th grade English class. We had to fill up calendar type pages for the entire year. We could add pictures (photographs or magazine images) and quotes. I loved finding the quotes and poems and although we didn't have the internet back then I enjoyed looking through books in the library and browsing the aisles of Hallmark for quotes.
So this is my simple version of a "words of encouragement" birthday book. Here is the cover:
The album is the 5x5 Chipboard Binder Album. Love that it's square and made a lot of room for all of the embellishments that I like to layer on!
I used lots of different textures and elements from the Maya Road collection, including, zippers, Trinket flowers & pins, wood spools & bingo calendar numbers and clear stamps plumped up with some embossing powder and glitter. I love the "Wings to Fly" birds mixed with the new "Ornate Botanical's" Stamps-- so fun together.
Have you seen the wood buttons that are in a couple of differnet sizes now? If you like buttons and paint, you'll want to have some to use on all of your paper crafting projects. I just ordered a bunch so that I have plenty on hand. I like to distress them and add a little glitter.
I know that I say this all of the time, because I have so many Maya Road favorites but those Kraft tags with the little polka dots are so awesome! Seriously, I can think of a hundred ways to use them and that new Double Stitched Velvet Ribbon--YUM!!!! It's available in Cloud white, Leaf green, Ocean turquoise, and Camellia pink. I can't wait to use them all together for Christmas projects.
And that "Our Town" stamp!! Oh my!!! Can you tell how happy all of the new Maya Road stuff makes me?!?! ;-)
There's the Wings to Fly bird together with the Ornate Botanical stamp again! Glitter is awesome to top the stamp off with sparkle...
I love the Zipper Trims... and although I'm not as create with it as the other talented design team girls, I still like to use chunks of it to add splashes of color and texture. I even think that it adds a little shabbiness. Look at that tiny bicycle from the "Go Bike Go" singleton set... adore it!
So so much fun to see this little album come together. Maya Road has a perfect mix of product to fill it all up. The Vintage envelopes are so sweet and I like to paint them up and sand on them for a worn look.
To end up my post here is one last page... there's the Ocean turquoise Velver ribbon and my favorite chipboards...Scalloped Frames and Mini Scrolls. The trim on the side is the new Alterable Scalloped Trim in Antique Cream. The edges have a light hint of distressing-- isn't that just perfect? Saves me from having to do it myself :-)
