Hello Roadies! It's Ronda here today to share with you one of my favorite "features" of CHA. For many shows now, the design team has taken on a challenge creating a unique piece that reflects who they are. Every tradeshow I look forward to seeing everyone's creations. This past summer show we did clipboards. Yes, I said clipboards!
It was an amazingly fun challenge...challenge being the correct word. While I loved the idea of using a clipboard, I struggled at first to find my direction. The beauty of Maya Road products is that they cross all kinds of styles and arts. I took a deep breath and created the kind of mixed media art I love.
I began my clipboard by layering bits & pieces of Maya Road products I adore. It's almost like a treasure hunt...can you find: Kraft Stickers (Hearts & Arrows), Transparency Clocks (Black & White), 2 Measuring Tape Trims, Small Kraft & Polka Dot Envelopes, 3 stamp stets, Chipboard Alpha, Kraft Light Bulb, & Wood frames. Yes they are all on here! I wrote out some thoughts on the background with a waterproof black pen and then added a layer of gesso across the clipboard.
I began painting the background with Maya Road mists. I love the rich color it brings to all my creations. I even painted "Me" with Maya Road Mists combined with a little bit of gesso. It's what makes them so versitile. You can use Maya Mists on almost any surface with the right preparations.
I wanted to give the clipboard a title so at the very beginning I added chipboard letters to the base. I covered them with gesso and maya mists as well as doodled around them with a waterproof black pen.
The lessons we always learn from these challenges is how Maya Road fits into so many different styles and that a challenge is a good creative push. I encourage you to take on our challenge by using a clipboard with some Maya Road products to create your own unique piece!
