Blog Swap with Xyron - Day 4

We are on day 4 of our blog swap with Xyron. I hope you are enjoying the fabulous projects so far.

Happy Halloween, Roadies! Are you ready for all those trick-or-treaters? Well, if not, I have a sweet project for you to whip up.

Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I am especially excited for trick-or-treating in our new neighborhood and I wanted to surprise my neighbor with a little bag of Halloween treats. So, I grabbed a glassine bag, some patterned paper, a page from my Scroll Edge Chipboard Binder Album, my Danielle Chipboard Alphas, my Autumn Mini Chipboard set, Licorice Black Tulle Pleat Trim, Grass Paper Twine Cording, a Super Mega Bottle Cap, Sunset Burlap Trim, Just My Type Alpha Stamps, and some of my Earl Grey Organza Tea Garden Trim.

I used my Xyron glue stick to adhere the patterned papers to my chipboard pieces and trimmed the excess off with a craft knife.

I layered up my black cat, pumpkin, and my bottle cap and adhered them to the chipboard using the Xyron Double-Sided High Tack Tape. That stuff is strong! And I love the little cutter teeth on the end of the packaging so I don't have to get my scissors all gummed up with adhesive. After I stapled my organza trim, the paper cording, and the burlap trim to the bag, I adhered the finished bag topper and my stamped out sentiment, all with the Double-Sided tape. Lastly, I embossed my "booed" with some lime green embossing powder, then I ran my little letters through the Xyron X Sticker Maker. This thing is PERFECT for covering the backs of my mini alphas with adhesive because you know that can get tricky sometimes.

I don't know how I lived without this thing! Its amazing!

After, I stuffed my bag with treats, I folded it over and used a few Xyron glue dots to keep it closed.

Blog Swap with Xyron: Day 3

I'm excited to share an Autumnal card with you today, using the following awesome products from Xyron and some fun things from Maya Road.

When I first started scrapping, 7 years ago, I found Xyron adhesives and you can still find me reaching for these great products. They just work! And my old layouts from back when I started? They are still stuck together, so I count that as a good sign that Xyron products are in it for the long haul!

 

I started by misting the large chipboard frame from the Photo Frames Chipboard set with my favorite Maya Mist, Mustard Yellow. 

 

I then used the Xyron Glue Stick that has the coolest design, it's wedge-shaped so it won't roll off the table (HOW NEAT IS THAT?!?!), and glued some paper to the back of the frame.

I had punched and cut a number of small leaves and did what any smart crafter would do, I ran them through the mini X to make stickers! So much easier to attach small things to your projects this way! 

Next, I used the Adhesive Dots to attach the frame to the card. I really appreciate the design of these dots, they are easy to pull out a few, I don't worry about losing the packaging, and they fit nicely next to my other Xyron adhesives. And they stick something amazing, always a good thing.

Once my frame was wrapped in some Maya Road Paper Twine in Earth and stuck firmly in place, I could start adding all the leaf stickers I'd made. 

I stamped and embossed part of the sentiment with our Picture Perfect Camera Stamp set and tied on my favorite camera, a Vintage Oh Snap Camera from the Summer CHA release. I was going for the "Smile for the camera" feel with this card, because I loved the idea in the quote. 

It's easy to get that feel I was going for, we've got plenty of awesome products that feature cameras of all varieties!

Blog Swap With Xyron - Day 2

Roadies, I am here today to tell you about the amazing Xyron Adhesive that is perfect for our Maya Road Transparencies (or any transparencies for that matter). One tricky thing about using transparencies is making sure the adhesive doesn't show. With the Xyron X, Sticker Maker and Creative Stations, your transparencies will be allowed to shine without the adhesives taking center stage!

Here I have some of our transparency clocks and the new 3" Sticker Maker from Xyron.

All I did was run the transparencies through the machine like this:

And you follow the directions on the paper to "rub and peel" and your transparencies will be perfect stickers. Check out how they are used on this layout:

You can see how there is almost no trace of adhesive showing.

Maya Road and Xyron Swap, Day 1

Hi Roadies and  welcome to the Maya Road and Xyron blog swap week!  I hope you'll join us for a fun filled week of projects and inspiration.  Okay, so I have one last Halloween project for you.  This project can be used as a door sign, in the center of a wreath or on an easel, which is how I will be using it.

As I work with lots of different types of materials, I love to try out different adhesives to see how they work. I used 3 of the Xyron adhesives on this project. The Permanent Adhesive Glue Stick to apply the paper to my chipboard pieces, paper mache cone and wood spools.  The Double Sided High Tack Tape for my trims and the High Tack Adhesive Dots were great for the pom poms and adding dimension to the chipboard star.

For this project, I knew I wanted to make a sign of some sort, so I decided to use the Mixed Half Circle Chipboard Banner Album as a starting point. To make the sign thicker I used the Xyron Glue Stick to layer 4 of the album pages together. After covering the pages with patterned paper, the glittered chipboard letters were added.

A basic doll head was made using some fabric, then features were added. To attach the head to the sign, a dowel was drilled into the center of the half circle pages, glued in place then the head was glued onto the other end.

A small paper mache cone was used to make the hat. Above you can see the pom poms made from Twine Cording and the Sparkle trim around the base of the hat.

A Satin Scallop Edge Bloom and some Tu-Tu Tulle were used around the neck of my monster and his arms were made out of some spools. The gloves were painted then glittered before some more Tu-Tu Tulle was added.

Colours

just popping in to share my clipboard I created for our design team wall at CHA summer

Sometimes in just great to sit and play with colours, with so many colours available in the mists you can come up with some really cool effects and colours.

Colours

As you can see i have played with the Maya Road mists with so many colour choices and great mists to water down  i can  get the COLOURS which best describes me.

Firstly I painted the clipboard with gesso and stuctured gel.

I have used a old paint brush in which i  gesso the bristles of the brush, so the colours of the Mists  can really stand out! spray a little water onto  the mists and this allows the colours to run.

i also did the same effect on the Chipboard alphabet. 

  embellished the paint brush with the new  Vintage Oh Snap cameras and the Bubblegum Vintage tape measure in which I totally adore

so Roadies  how would you best describe yourself ? would it be colours ?

maybe today is a good day to Colour your World !

autumn faves

Even though we live where we don't experience the seasons, we still have favorite autumn activities each year. I love the fun and silliness of Halloween, trick or treating, and the amazing sunsets that we have.

Psst... can I just say that this gold twine is a current favorite product of mine to work with? And the burlap trim adds just the right amount of texture to autumn projects, especially!

What are some of your favorite autumn activites? It was fun to just gather a collection of a few photos instead of focussing on an event for a layout!

Ghoul Bus Treats

Hi Roadies!  With the kids back at school, I thought it would be a good opportunity to use a school bus album, I've had for a while. But since the whole "back to school" period has kind of passed and Halloween is just around the corner, I figured I'd turn this project into a "ghoul bus" for some treats instead!

I turned the album into a treat box, by adding some chipboard pieces, cut from an old chipboard album. For the back and front of the bus you can see that two pieces were cut. The solid pieces are to make the frame of the box and the die-cut pieces will be covered with paper, embellishments etc. and then glued to the box frame.

Here's how the frame of box got put together.

1. Use the longest line,  that you marked on the bus, to line up the "bottom" of  the box. Glue in place.
2. Next, glue the "back" of the bus in place. Allow these pieces to dry.
3. Glue the pieces from the previous steps, on to the other side of the bus.
4. Glue the front of the bus in place.
5. Use some foamcore to fill in the front area of the bus, as shown.
6. Then use some thin cardboard to curve around the engine area of the bus.
7. Use rubber bands or string to hold the cardboard in place, until it dries.
8. The frame of the bus should now look like this. 
9. Take the diecut "front" piece of the bus and cut it, to fit the bus frame.

The front of the bus was covered with patterned paper first. Then the die-cut pages from the School Bus Album and the die-cut pieces that were hand cut, were covered with paper and the die-cut areas were filled in, with paper and stickers, before gluing them to the frame.

For the headlights layered buttons were used and the grille was made out of a Wood Birdcage, that was painted and then glittered. I also used a little Twine Cording to trim the front and sides of the bus.

The chipboard wheels from the album and some circles from the Mixed Blossoms Chipboard Set were used on the wheels, along with some more Wood Buttons and Star Trinket Pins.

A little chipboard banner was attached to some wire and then hot glued into place on the back of the bus.

I finished off the bus by adding some treats for my son's class. Happy Halloween!

Hey Roadies! We're excited to have a very talented guest with us today! Earlier in the year we had a guest designer call and we are very happy to be able to showcase Renee Iveson's creative designs today. Here's a little bit about Renee...

Hailing from sunny Brisbane in the great land down under Renee Iveson has been scrapbooking in one form or another forever.

She has been lucky enough to be published in all of the major Australian scrapbooking magazines having been a Scrapbooking Memories Master and one of the original Scrapbook Creations Design Diva’s having her work featured on the cover.

For Renee scrapbooking is all about the creative process and she is always looking for new styles, trends, projects and mediums to push the boundaries of her crafty art.

Renee lives with her husband Tim and their three children; she enjoys all things vintage and cherishes the friendships of the amazing women she has met on her creative journey so far.

What I'm loving in 2013

Hey roadies! Mandy Kay Starner here, to share a mini book I created for the Summer CHA booth.

I started with a 5x8" 3-ring Chipboard Tab Book. I painted and misted all the pages, front and back. For the cover, I layered up a Linen Heart, a kraft owl, some Lemon Burlap trim, Pearl Ball Trinket Pins, a bit of Tape Measure Trim, and I added a title using Jonathan Alphas and Numbers. I kept the same basic design throughout most of the book, photos taped on the pages with some Saltwater Taffy Fabric Tape, journaling either stamped on, using the Just My Type stamps, or my favorite chipboard alphas... Jonathan Alphas, Lisa Uppercase Alphas, and the Mini Jonathan Alphas.
