Hey there Roadies! Mandy Kay Starner here, and I can't wait to share my favorite CHA-W booth project. Every show, Caroline assigns one project that the whole Design Team has to do. In the past, its been canvases, hip bags, clipboards... this year, she asked us all to "make something into a chalkboard". I knew exactly what I wanted to do... a globe!
I have a small collection of vintage globes and I have always wanted to experiment with one or two of them. This assignment was just the excuse. I chose my globe with the brightest colors, I thought that with all the black, that the more color, the better. I cut some adhesive backed vinyl in the phrase "see the world with me" with my Cameo, placed it where I wanted it and stuck it down, making sure that there were no bubbles anywhere(I didn't want the paint to bleed under the vinyl.)
This is how it looked before paint...
I have to admit that I loved the way it looked at this stage and I was a little nervous that something would go wrong in the painting phase, but it didn't. I primed it and gave it a few coats of chalkboard paint before peeling off the vinyl and decorating the base with brightly colored Maya Road embellishments. I even topped it off with one of the Antique Around the World Planes.
Items used to decorate the base include:
Preppy Stripe Trim- Dress Up Black
Mini Love You Heart Wood Pieces
Satin Scallop Edge Blooms- Midnight
Thanks for stopping by the Maya Road DT Blog. Have a great day!
