Hey Roadies! It's Katrina here with my first posting on the Maya Road blog. I am excited to show you a few ways to embellish your embellishments. I have four different ways on one scrapbook layout, so let's get started!
I tend to leave wooden embellishments bare, but recently I have dug out the glitter. Scary right?! I found an easy way to get the glitter to stick and not flake as much. I first paint the item with either gesso or white acrylic paint and then while it's still wet sprinkle the glitter on. This helps keep the glitter in place and not flake. If I am still having a little trouble with flaking, I have been known to pull out my hairspray and lightly mist the piece. This bird was just calling for some gold glitter! I untwisted some of the Twine in Blackberry and used just the black to make a little nest behind the bird and the Rectangular Kraft Envelope.
Next up chipboard. Why have your chipboard be lonely? Pair it up with another piece of chipboard and some other embellishments. Here I covered two pieces from the Mixed Mini Blossom set in two different papers. Stack and then attach a wooden Bingo Motif piece in the center for fun and add some paper die cuts and Trinket Pins if you want to take it a little further. I also used this cluster as part of my title.
Another fun way to embellish your chipboard is to use the foil transfer sheets that are so popular right now. There are a couple of different companies that have these and they are fun to use on chipboard. You will need either a liquid or spray adhesive that will work with the foils. I used spray adhesive and then placed the foil transfer sheet on top of my letter. Rub hard with your finger or a burnishing tool and then carefully lift the transfer sheet away. This "U" from the Lisa Uppercase alphabet was the perfect size for my title.
And last, but not least is altering those white fabric goodies. I used Gelatos with some water to change the Lace Fabric Tape in Cloud to a blue that would work with my layout. You can also use paint, watercolors and of course, mists to alter these also!
I hope I gave you some ideas of altering Maya Road goodies. Thanks for stopping by the Maya Road Design Team blog today!
