A Card and Gift in One

Hi Roadies! Jess here today with a card with a twist. With just a small adjustment to my embellishments I transformed this card into a card with a bonus gift attached.


I created the card as I normally would, leaving a large circular doily area on the lower half, surrounded by lots of layers.


I used a ton of Maya Road dies on this, as they really are wonderful for layers in all sorts of materials. I love the subtle detail the embossing leaves on many of the die cuts, like the stitch marks on the tag here and the lines on the notebook paper.


My paper choices were rustic and weathered so these wood and resin pieces really blended well with the overall feel of the card. The crochet trim was a bit too wide to fit in the tag hole so I trimmed it to one row of poms and it was a perfect fit... adorable!


And now the bonus gift! I created this felt doily and flower cluster to be removable because it's actually a hair clip! The two pre-formed felt flower embellishments were a natural pairing with the rolled rose. Did you know you can cut felt with the Maya Road dies?  Think of the possibilities!


The back is very simply finished with a ribbon covered alligator clip.  To attach the clip to the back of the card I carefully used a craft knife to cut two slits through the first few layers in the doily area. You can then slide the bottom of the alligator clip into the cut area to hold the hair accessory.

What a fun little gift to send to birthday girls big and small!

Follow Your Bliss

Hey everyone! It's Julia here today with a look at some cards I created with the latest Maya Road kit. Follow Your Bliss is an amazing card kit that is full of gorgeous papers, embellishments and other great crafting products.

My first card let's the patterned paper do most of the work. It's simple to add in a stamped sentiment and some of the sweet embellishments included in the kit to make this eye-popping card. I love the felt arrow accents and the gorgeous new tassel from Maya Road.  The latest version of the extremely popular and trendy tassels have a shiny gold top that really looks glam.

I've repeating the tassel detail again in the second card but the vibe is totally different. There's fun orange exclusive tickets that make a great layer. Another exclusive in this kit is the stamp set. You won't find it anywhere else! I've stamped the seize the day sentiment on the wood tag and then surrounded it with stamped arrows, also in the stamp set. Stamping is for more than just paper!

My third card also adds in more stamping. Don't you love the script of that always sentiment? It looks like great hand-lettering without all the work. This card has lots of gorgeous coral seam binding wrapped around the large kraft bobbin. There's more black arrow felt pieces and sweet red paper roses that add a feminine touch.

Finally, the last card has more gorgeous exclusives on it. The enjoy token makes a great focal point and sentiment and I love the sweet pink pearl trim that makes a double border.

Create Art Mixed Media Canvas

Hi Roadies! It's Melody here on the blog today. I have a mixed media canvas to share with you today. Next month I am going to be moving to a new home and my new studio! This canvas is my first project for the new room! I used the Fanciful Create Art Steel Dies for inspiration. 

 I started with an 8 x 8 canvas and painted the canvas with a pale yellow paint. When the paint was dry I sprayed on a white distress stain and splattered white paint. When the canvas had completely dry I used a stencil and a light texture paste to add texture to the background. 

I cut the words three times from white card stock and layered them together to add more depth. The sentiment is layered on a Corrugated Kraft Mail Tag and I added a Mini Arrow Charm to accent the tag. 

Maya Road has so many beautiful embellishments and dies! In keeping with the art theme, I cut two flowers from watercolor paper with the Geometric Blossom Die, and watercolored the flowers with pretty blue and green watercolors. I added the flowers to two of the corners to anchor my embellishments. Next I just played with my embellishments until I came up with a look and feel that felt right to me. I used the Rolled Flower Die to create to two flowers from felt. I love the touch of texture felt can give to a project. 

I added a few more flowers, a Tulle Mini Blooms in Milk White, a small and medium Vintage Paper Flower, and a pearl flower. Under the pearl flower is a Ornate Resin Frame in Seafoam. I finished the corner off with a Metal Vintage Trinkets - @ Clip and a wooden token is from the Wood Geometric Shape Tokens. 

I picked up a very inexpensive paint brush and added a couple coats to Gesso the the brush. Once the Gesso had dried I added a strip of Self-Adhesive Rhinestone Trim in Sparkle Silver, two strips of Vintage Rick Rack Crochet Trim in Cloud White, and a Crystal Circle Button. The My Story token from the Wood 24/7 Journaling Tokens and just seemed perfect for the canvas! Then I had to add one of my favorite embellishments, a Vintage Oh Snap Camera. 

The canvas is finished off with a Feathered Friend Resin Embellishment, a wooden embellishment from the Wood Measure Once, Cut Twice Embellishments, and a scattering of Resin Mini Mums in Turquoise Sea and Snow White.

Mini Album - Smile

Hi Roadies! It's me Stacy today on Maya Road blog today!

 

This time round, I decided to play with the dies to create this mini album! Boy did I enjoy myself much on this project!

 

 

I'm telling you, this has to be my favourite album! It started with the cluster of embellishments for the title, and the more I built / layered, the more substantial it got. I was having much fun!

 

I first started building the title, using the bow die and the Smile frame ATC die. A die can work multiple purposes! In this case, I am using the bow die as a title background, like a label. It sure works! Then I added the XO Heart Die below, topped with the soaring bird resin. Next, I decided that I would like to frame up the resin bird, so I backed it with the wood frame embellishment and a pink pin. As a final layering, I added the Vintage Doilies, topped with some jute cording and the Geometric leaf.

 

Yes, you might have guessed, I worked from the title downwards, creating the layered cover for my mini album.

 

 

 

The album opens to an array of envelope pages with tags. There is so many possibilities in here! Add almost everything to the pockets! 2 sides open up with pockets, the sides as well as the top.

 

 

 

For the top pockets, I added the tabbed file folder in every of those pockets. Had to cut it slightly smaller in order to fit, then backed it with pattern paper.

 

 

For the side pockets, I added a whole load of goodies to them! For the front side, I added clips! Love how these clips fit nicely into the pockets and become a gorgeous piece of embellishment! I used an array of them, namely the beautiful daisy, question mark and coffee cup clip. For the beautiful daisy, I even added a brad to the centre!

 

Each of the front side pockets are also filled with an ATC diecut. The ATC diecuts are extremely gorgeous! In addition, I topped it up with a token of choice. There are so many gorgeous tokens in Maya Road's Collection, I am sure you will be spoil for choice! 

 

 

 

See what I mean with the ATC die-cuts? Each of these are either backed with pattern paper or clear transparency. I love how simple yet stylish each piece is!

 

 

 

On the back pockets, I added some pattern paper and manila shipping tags. I love to use these shipping tags! I like it in its original color, so I simply added some doodling to the sides of the tag. Oh yes, and the stitched square background you see below on the tag? That's the square stitched diecut from the Smile frame ATC die! 

 

 

 

Last but not least, there is still space on the back page for more decoration! I grabbed some love chipboards and painted them gold. It serves as a subtitle and I love how the word love peeks out from the top of the album! Look at the pearl flower trims! Ain't they gorgeous!

Hey there Roadies!  I hope you all are enjoying the year, since it's HALF over!  It's Katrina here on the blog today sharing a quick card with some fun Maya Road embellishments and using some of the steel dies.  So let's hop to it.

Cards are such a great way to use some fun embellishments, along with using up those 6x6 mini pads of paper that we all like to collect!  When I was deciding on how to do this card, I knew I wanted to use the teal flower.  I tried sitting it aside, but it kept calling for me to use it.  So I designed the card around the flower for the most part.  I knew I wanted the flower to sit on something like a tag.  Then I remembered the bobbin steel die and it was the perfect size.  Quick and easy to die cut is just the added bonus!

You have seen me use them before, but I need all the tiny kraft envelopes in bulk! They are great to use as a base for your embellishments, sentiments, etc. As I was looking for paper to cut the "hello" out of, I ran across a striped piece of paper and thought it might look neat.  And it looked neater than I thought it would!  Sort of an ombre effect that I really like!

I have a few friends I need to send cards to and I think I have found the perfect design!  Hope I inspired you to make something beautiful today.  And while you are at it, make a card and say "hello"!  Have a great Friday!

Love Beautiful Art

Hi Roadies! Belly is on the blog today. I love mixed media and art journal, I love them just because the outcome is always surprising and unique, even if we are very experienced, we can never reproduce exactly the same next time. On this art journal cover, you can see how I layered many different elements with Maya Road goodies to add additional touch to create this unique cover, as well as using color and inks made it really different.

 

 

I use pattern papers a lot in my mixed media artwork, and it is very exciting to use also the different kinds of Maya Road embellishments to match. I am definitely not a medium expert, and I do not layer a lot of color and ink layers on the background, but I like to add some gesso on the embellishment in order to let them become a bit vintage or shabby.

 

 

Of course, everyone has their favorite coloring media, but I have always use Distress products which is water soluble, and they can be applied very easily on Maya Road chipboard and wood embellishments, and with a super cool result. To create a faded color look on the wood token, it is very easy to blend on the color with blending tool, not the whole surface but only half, so you will still see the pattern on the token very clearly and beautifully.

 

 

At this time of year, gold is still very trendy. I decided to create a journal cover title with simple die-cutting words with Maya Road steel dies. I've die-cut them twice on cardstocks, one on gold and one on black. I then finished the cover with gesso highlight and splashes, by using gesso you can enhance your dimensions of the projects.

Quick and easy place card holders

Hello there Roadies! It's Yvonne here today to share with you some quick and easy place card holders. 

 

I got these large wood clothespins at the dollar store and covered them with patterned paper. Then I embellished with Maya Road Wood Mail Call Tokens, Pretty Resin Bows in Sand, Pearl Flower Trim and Vintage Rick Rack Crochet Trim in Natural Ecru.

I collect these cute receipt envelopes from my fave French restaurant and thought it would be fun to decorate one of them to match the place card holder. So I used the same patterned paper, Pearl Flower Trim and Vintage Rick Rack Crochet Trim in Natural Ecru.
