Scrapping for Boys: Block Head

Happy Friday, Roadies! Jess here today with a BOY page for you. I like all colors, including pink, but really do love scrapping for my little guy. I’d love to show you how easy it is to go beyond floral and typically girly embellishments and create a fun layout for the boys in your life.


The first stand-out element of my design is the twine "sunburst" on the right half of the page.  I wanted some white space but it looked too empty with nothing over there so I added the rays with twine, taping the center parts and very slightly notching the edge where the twine ends wrapped around to the back. After I placed my photo mat layers the messy taped center was hidden. The twine also created a perfect fun set of lines for my title!


I added the 24/7 wood token above my title... because, as any mom of a little boy understands, the LEGO obsession is non-stop! The wood tokens are awesome for boy pages.  Basic shapes like circles are easy to incorporate into your design and the natural wood coordinates with everything.

I die-cut a notepaper and a tag here, as well, for additional layers.

You can also see an older Maya Road acrylic "potty person" boy that I adhered to the right of the photo.  It doesn't get more boy than that!


I used another wood token below my photo, along with a kraft insta card. Kraft elements almost always work well on masculine pages. I also love hearts for boys... yup! My little guy is definitely the more lovey of my two kids and loves drawing hearts.  So he gets hearts!

I added a length of preppy striped black and white ribbon to ground the photo, which is repeated in the piece tied on the tag.


Tags are an essential embellishment for the guys!  They can add color and texture, like I did here, with bits tied in the holes or the dimension of corrugate.

The star button completes a visual triangle of wooden circles in my design and the 5 metal clip adds even more texture.  I love these clips!

Now, rest assured I absolutely DO use flowers on my boy pages! But the embellishments shown here today are definitely my go-to choices for neutral pages for the guys in my life.  Thanks for taking a look!

Teacher Thank You Cards

Hi Roadies! It's Melody here on the blog today. As summer winds down and we get ready for fall it is time to think about back to school. Where I live some of the schools started this week. With that in mind I have two teacher thank you to share. It always a good idea to have them ready to go when you need them! 

I love how easy Maya Road dies make putting a card together! First I die cut the Smile Frame ATC Die to create the frame in the center of the card. The thank you sentiment is cut with the Fanciful Thank You Die, once from card stock and once from a lightweight chipboard to add a little more depth. The scissors are cut with the Bobbin & Scissors Die and the stars with the Fanciful Wish Die from glittered card stock. 

I finished off the card with a few pretty embellishments including Vintage Rick Rack Crochet Trim in Cloud White, a Vintage Ruler, and a Small Vintage Paper Flowers in Red.

I used the Fanciful Thank You Die again on my second card, adding a little shading with distress inks. I adhered the sentiment to a Corrugated Kraft Mail Tag. The panel behind the tag is cut with the Scalloped Frame ATC Die. In the upper corner I added a Felt Rose in Maroon Red and a Vintage Wood Stitch Heart and Arrow Charm. 

The buttons are cut with Mini Buttons Die. I wrapped Cherry Red Jute & Twine Cording around the tag and hung a Vintage Mini Key Ring Charm and a sweet Vintage Crafting Tassel in Sky Blue. 

I hope my cards give you some inspiration to get those thank you card ready go!

Let's Go with Maya Road

Hey Roadies, it's Katrina back on the blog again.  This time to share a layout with you.  I love to mix "feminine" with "masculine" and that's just what I tried on this layout.  The Maya Road wood embellishments, along with the Maya Road flower embellishments are a great combo!

After piecing the basic layout together, I started pulling Maya Road items out to figure out what I wanted to use.  The "smile" wooden token was one of the first, so I knew that was probably going to go on there somewhere!  

And I know a lot of people talk about design "rules", but I tend to go with what feels right and looks balanced.  That led to adding one of the wood slices down in the opposite corner from the camera token.  And as an after thought, I added a little punched butterfly on the wood slice and fell in love with how it looked!

Since the paper collection I was working with didn't have any pink, it was easy to add some with a felt flower!  The felt flowers come in so many colors and are so versatile, I want to grab them for every project.  I added some of the new resin mum pieces as accents.  The kraft tickets worked well as a border under my picture.  Toss in a few die cuts from the paper collection and you have a sweet cluster for your page!

Mini Album - Oh Snap

Hi Roadies! Stacy here today and I am sharing another mini album on Maya Road blog! Mini albums has been my favorite gift so far. It is great for documenting memories, and it is more than just well wishes for the receiver. This time, I am documenting photos taken during my traditional wedding at the photo booth. I did not get too much time in the photo booth, but I am glad my family and friends have taken some wonderful photos which becomes part of my happy memory.

This mini album is made with pockets so I can enclose multiple tags or polaroid photos into the album. I am totally in love with the pretty dies from Maya Road! I see a lot of possibilities with them and I can't wait to share all of them with you! Today, I am using the new die set from Maya Road! Fixing this front cover is super easy with the new die sets! Look out for them, because they are a MUST have for your crafting needs!

Another element I enjoyed was fixing up some tassels with Maya Road - Ken Oliver charms. Gorgeous charms! Who doesn't like some dangling elements to their albums? It enhances the entire album!

Here's a look at the top of the album. There is still space to expand from the pocket album!

The album opens up to an array of pockets to fit the Maya Road ATC die cuts or shipping tags! I also added the Maya Road wooden tokens, clips or metal embellishment in this album, there is no problem since the spine opens up with space to expand!

New Born Fairy

Hi Roadies! Belly's on the blog today.

A friend of mine asked me to make an album for her, which she would like to gift to celebrate a friend's new born baby. How can I make a special one? I think of the theme "Fairy", which is not just pink or light blue in color. Album is always a good one to gift because most of the parents love to display their baby photos, so I decided to make a stand for displaying the album, where the drawers underneath is good to store the memoriables.

 

I chose the mini spool for decorating the stand, the Maya Road Vintage Burlap Roses are also perfect to match. I like to add more flowers on this stand as blooms are always nice to represent "beautiful" and "shine".

 

Here show you a few of the inside pages. Pearls and crystals, and the Maya Road Resin Birds are also amazing to add here.

 

For the ring album, there are tags, envelopes, and even an accordion album. This accordion album is just like a separate album, I made a cover for it, other than the chipboard accents, I added a few of my favorite Maya Road goodies, mini spool with twine, tassel and burlap rose, I love them so much!

 

One more page to show you, this is the front of an envelope, I put the Maya Road Arrow Charm on the top, this can guide you to turn and open it, so nice!

His and Her Tags

Hey Roadies!  It's Katrina from Paper, Scissors and Glue with a quick and fun idea for his and her tags.  Take basically the same design and mix it up for a male or female!

My general design was a tag on a tag.  Maya Road has such great tags to work with and use to embellish, you cannot go wrong!  I started with a basic manila tag that I covered with some pattern paper.  Then I started building on that.  Let's take a look at the female tag.

I colored a wooden tag with a blue gelato color and water then let dry. Attach your yellow scallop trim first and the using foam adhesive place your tag on top of it.  Find a flower that you like and add it to the bottom of the tag.  I added the resin owl, well because he is cute!  If the tag is for a birthday gift, a cute idea is to add the age of the birthday person!  We all know that girls are forever 29!  

Now, the male tag was a little harder to come up with something, but we know blue works!  So I started with blue pattern paper and then built on that.  Let's take a look.

I decided that sticking to a blue/black/kraft color scheme would be the way to go. I cut the stars from the Star & Arrow Pins and adhered them to a blackboard post tag. I didn't want to pile a lot on the male tag, so I kept it simple, but still fun.

And on both tags, I used a glitter pen and doodled or used faux stitching just to dress them up a bit.  So get out there and create some tags for your next gift the you are giving.  It will make it a little more personal and you will have fun creating tags!  Happy Friday!

A layout with wood tokens

Hello Roadies! Yvonne here to share a layout today featuring my fave wood tokens from Maya Road. :)

 

The Wood You've Been Framed Embellishments  are perfect for framing little photos on your layout. I used them as banner pennants for a fun design element. I also used the real life wood token from the Wood 24/7 Journaling Tokens pack.

These wood tokens are perfect for embellishing your layout because they are lightweight and relatively flat. Hope you include them in your next layout! 

 

A couple of Cards By Yasmin Tölche

Hello Roadies! It's Yasmin on the blog today and I have a couple of cards to share with you. These cards where actually featured in a Norwegian Card Making magazine called "Ett Trykk". So I made one for a boy and one girly card. Let's start with the girly. 

Isn't that resin bow the cutest thing ever?!

I added loads of layers on my card and a Maya Road Kraft Doily, and of course the cutest bow Resin is the perfect accent on my card.

So the boyish card also has loads of layers. I like to curl all my papers to create hight without using 3D foam pads or something similar. 

I used twine and a lightbulb clip from Maya Road to accent my card. A little layers and some paint splashes and voila! My card is done :)
