Things About Me-Wood Pallet

Hey Roadies! It's been awhile since I posted, it's Katrina from Paper, Scissors and Glue.  Maya Road released a bunch of new and fun things at CHA and I am here to share one of my projects from the show with you.  One of the fun Wood Pallets in the 8X8 inch size.  These are perfect for a fast and fun altered project or home decor item!  You can see here that I used strips of pattern paper to cover my pallet.  That's just one of the ways you can customize these for YOUR project!

I used some of the new flowers, tassels and wood tokens to create a cluster at the top of my picture.  And those clips...LOVE!  You get quite a few in a package, so how fun is that?!  And I mixed some older Maya Road product in with the new...some of the vintage leaves, paper roses and button stick pin. 

I am a sucker for a tiny envelope and the DIY Mini Envelope Die I knew I would have fun with!  I created four facts about me and stuck them in the envelopes.  I adhered a Resin Mini Mums on the closing area just for some fun and whimsy. And the Resin Bows are made to coordinate and match with the Mums!

Hi Roadies;

Angella here with you today sharing one of my CHA projects - Buttons  the Robot

I have created my robot out of  the  Maya Road Wood photo box 6 x 8 and 3 x 4  I have  hinged the smaller box onto the larger box, this way when you flip his head it gave the robot the easel option for storage. You can store your pens and tags or whatever you would like to store in your  photo boxes

Once the boxes are hinged together 

• smaller photo box as the head and the larger box as his body.  
• dismantle a MR pallet for the arms using screws and bolts to attached the box.
• Legs are off a wooden toy

then you can proceed to decorate into whatever you would like . I made the body  shape into a robot - Buttons*

Personal Ombre Me Pallet

Did you get a chance to check out the booth photos from the Creativation (CHA) show? The Maya Road booth featured a big wall full of wood pallets designed around who we are as a design team.  It was so neat to see all the different takes and styles done on a pallet "canvas". We all started with the same material but they looked unique. Today I'm showing you what I did with my designer pallet:


I started out "staining" my pallet.  I wanted some color on there but didn't want to cover the pretty woodgrain.  I watered down basic acrylic paint and used a foam brush to wash it over the wood. Then I used a paper tower to wipe off the excess. I varied the colors from a teal green up top to a deeper marine blue below for an ombre look.  Sanding the edges softened everything and led into more of a distressed look, which I continued with splattered paint and mist drops and some texture stamping.


I am never content with my materials being contained within borders so I let many of my embellishments stick off the edges. I used glitter tulle trim around the edge of the kraft doilies to add a soft pop of color. Stitching the tiny wood token heart was a labor of love but I love the subtle detail it adds! I layered lots of coordinating wood, flowers and leaves for an eclectic mix that best matches the style I often like to create in.


I really stayed true to my style for the photo cluster. I love layers! I used more doilies here, tucked under my paper mats, along with a wood tag. I absolutely love the sheer amount of texture I got on here: the burlap flower, felt, acrylic frame, leather tassel, threads, wood, metal, and a linen pennant. Small but packed clusters like these are my favorite thing to create!

Wood Pallet: Keepin' It Real

Hello Roadies!  

 

Nathalie with you today, bringing you my first project for 2017!

I had worked on a layout for this post, but upon consideration, I wanted to share with you one of the projects that made the trip to Arizona this year to be part of Creativation.  This time the focus of the pallet was me, so i labelled the pallet "Keepin' It Real".

 

 

 

This was a fun project to work on.   The 6x6 wood pallet  was the starting point for this project.  Since i wanted a blank canvas, i used some antique white acrylic paint to lightly color the entire pallet.  While the base dried, i used Earl Grey Jute and Twine cording to wrap the inside part of an embroidery hoop.

 

 

 

Next i used the Rolled Flower die, and cut flowers out of pink ombre paper.  Once the flowers were formed, i used pieces of the pearl button trim to create the centers of the flowers.

 

 

 

Next I attached the wrapped hoop to the right side of the pallet.  I placed the picture at the bottom right of the hoop, cut a chipboard sticker to form my title inside of the hoop.   A small cluster of ephemera was placed at the bottom right of the hoop right below the picture.  For this, simply used some white paint to color one of the Snapshot Wooden token, and a little gold marker to define the camera and sentiment in the token.  To continue the white theme of the pallet, i placed  a Vintage Crafting White Milk tassel, and a Vintage Crafting (gold cap) Milk White tassel  below the token.

 

 

 

All the rolled flowers were glued to the left of the picture as a cascade from the top to bottom of the pallet.   A  white Vintage Butterfly transparency, one of the chipboard hearts in the Mini heart confetti set -painted gold-, and  one of the 24/7 Journaling wood tokens painted in white  were scattered along the flower cluster.

 

 

 

 

Finally,  I used some multiple papers to and the Typewriter die to create the piece that serves as the anchor of the pallet.  Adding a small sentiment sticker completed this pallet.

 

 

 

I love the final look of this pallet, and how the pieces worked together beautifully!

School Notes Card by Kristine Davidson

My second project is a card created with mostly the Steel Die – School which is to be released soon!

I created this card with a self cut out tag, I added dimensional adhesive underneath for dimension. I cut out the small pieces from the steel dies such as the glasses; paper, stars, check mark, and the title work it. The A is a sticker from elsewhere.

This die is super cute and you will love it! My favorite from this is the check mark and the glasses… those are so cute and those stars as well.  Alright, the entire set is pretty cute!

Maya Road Guest Designer: Kristine Davidson

Kristine lives on the East Coast in New Brunswick, Canada. She's been married for 15 years and has 2 cats named Archie and Willie who keep her busy removing cat hair from her glue dots!  She works full time as a customer sales and service agent for an airline company and loves to spend her spare time being creative. She also loves anything with chocolate, a good cup of coffee, as well as city skylines, and sunsets.

Kristine has been an avid scrapbooker since 2006 and completely addicted to pop dots, diecuts and of course pattern paper.  She is the founder of a scrapbook sketch site called Creative Scrappers, and currently a design team member for Jillibean Soup and Simple Stories. She is thrilled to be our guest designer this month and looking forward to providing you with some inspiration to get creative.

Bloom Pallet by Kristine Davidson

 

I decided to create a small display with the Mini 4x4 Pallet. The mini I saw them I was in Love! They are perfect for any “little “project such as a teacher’s gift, Christmas, home décor and even more.

I first painted the wood pallet a nice dark brown and sanded off the edges.

My base was the Kraft Mason Jar Tag that you can see underneath all the flowers.  I created each flower with the soon to be released Steel Dies – Flowers.  I layered them with pop dots and curled the edges a bit for more dimension.

Once I place my flowers in a cluster I added Felt Blossoms, but they were too large so instead I trimmed around them and kept a small rosette size to be placed in those empty spaces. Adding cut out leaves and a few wood tokens, Love Note Charm, and even an Ornate Button at the top finished my display.

At the end I added 2 Vintage Pearl Trinket Pins and my title which is Bloom that is from a steel die in the – Flowers package.

Overall I am very pleased with the outcome; it’s really cute in person. This little display has lots of texture which we all love.

Wood Pallet: What really matters

Hi Roadies! Stacy on the Maya Road blog today! Time sure passes fast! This is my first Maya Road project for 2017. Today, I made use of the 4" wood pallet and decided to add a photograph where I can change along the year to highlight different events!

This is a really simple and fun project to do. First, I started by applying gesso on the chipboard pieces.

Adding some random chipboard numbers to the pallet and topping it up with another layer of gesso:

Next, I added some textured paste using the diecut piece from Maya Road Dots ATC Die. Using the diecuts as stencils, I obmit the step of cleaning after use. That's one faster way of crafting! After the textured paste dries, I added some random stamping all around. If you need to, just dab lightly some additional gesso to reduce the contrast of the stamping. On the next step, I used 3D foam dots to pop up the MR Scalloped Frame ATC diecut.

I always love to have some vintage tone to the florals I use in projects. Here, I simply mixed some gesso with a little water, and applied lightly to the petals of the MR Medium Vintage Flowers.

Additionally, i used a piercer and twined the stems of the flowers around it. It looks like vines around the flower and I prefer this look.

Here I have a closer look at the completed project. I did add some light misting randomly to enhance the pink tones for this project. Kept it light, so it would not overwhelm the focus.

Another closer look at the portions with the textured paste. Love how it gives a random textured look.

I used the gold bulldog clip so I can change the photo whenever I wanted! That clip is really a must to all projects!

Adding elements to this project was easy. I used MR Vintage Doilies as a backdrop, and added the resin bird coupled with paper flowers and wooden token.

Last but not least, i added some porcelain pink resin mini mums to fill some empty spaces. This step is all i need to make the project feel complete.

Grin | 12x12 Layout

Hi there Roadies!  It's Jill Keller with a new scrapbook layout featuring the Oh Snap Camera Die set plus a handful of other fabulous Maya Road embellishments!

This page started by machine-stitching my background papers together, then I did a whole bunch of die cutting!  Did you know that the Maya Road dies cut through fun foam?!?!  They sure do!  I used the frame die and cut several frames from fun foam and patterned paper, then adhered the paper to the die cut fun foam to make my own dimensional embellishments.

I placed a few of the die cut frames on the background in a random pattern to frame my photo area.

To embellish my page I used a Vintage Craft Tassel in fuchsia, adhered with glue dots, Silver and Pink Star Pins, Black Say Cheese Transparency, Wood Spool Sentiment Tokens and a Metal Vintage Star Bright Clip.

I added in bits of tangled thread to tie in the sewing I did on the background and the photo layers.

I added a title with Thickers, but wanted to also use the phrase from the Oh Snap die set, so I added it in one of the frames near the photo and added some Glossy Accents to make it stand out.

I finished my layout with a few splatters of black ink.

Bloom with Maya Road Wood Pallets

Hi Everyone!  It's Melody here on the blog today. I have a project to share with you today that I created on a Maya Road Wood Pallet. The wood pallets come in a number of different sizes and there are few new sizes being released later this month. I am also giving you a sneak peak at a new die set, Flowers, also releasing soon!

Here I am using the 4" x 4" Wood Pallet. My first step was to add a coat of gesso to the wood and let it dry. Then I simply used distress inks and a blender to add the greens and blues to the wood. Once I was happy is the background color I splattered white paint on the pallet. 

Here's a closer look at the new Flowers Die. I cut each flower twice and layered one on top of the other. I created the centers with the dies and Resin Mini Mums in Turquoise Sea. In the center I added Felt Rose. 

I die cut  the leaves from felt and added a Feathered Friend Resin Embellishments in Buttermilk. The sentiment is included in the Flowers Die Set. I cut it once from cardstock and once from a light weight chipboard and adhered them together for a little more depth. I finished off the pallet with a few clear sequins.

Creative Joy

The reason that most of us create is for the sheer joy of it. Sometimes it's because we need something but often being creative is not the necessity of an end product (although that's very nice), but more out of a creative need inside. We love to create. There is a joy in the process.

Hi everyone...it's Julia here and today let's start 2017 with creating just for the joy of it.

 

Each year I sit down and take some time to ponder a word for the year. One that I will think about and one that will inspire me. This year I've chosen joy. 2016 was just plain difficult for me and my family. It brought a lot of tears and heartache and this year I've decided that while I can't change many things in my life.. no matter what I'm going to choose joy for 2017.

Today's project is an altered wall hanging that full of all kinds of creative goodies and it's going to hang in my creative space to remind me to choose that joy day in and day out. It also reminds me of the joy of being creative and that a little time taken to steal away from the every day is priceless therapy.

This oval wood piece is covered first with patterned paper and then layered with die cuts and then embellished.

There's just so much on here....little bits and pieces from my desk, paper flowers, rolled flowers and paper leaves. I've also tucked in some of my favorite die-cuts using the File Folder, Hearts ATC and Notepaper dies. You can find all the links below at the end of the post.

Here's another peek at those rolled roses and some other sweet Maya Road embellishments as well.

I love mixing everything together. Metal arrow clips with resin deer, paper die-cuts with ribbon, wood embroidery hoops and tulle posies.
