Sweet Pink Altered Hoop

Greetings Roadies! Today I'm bringing you a little something sweet and girly.  I have a little four year old tomboy in my house who, despite preferring snakes to unicorns, loves the color pink. I've found with having a little girl I discovered a love of pink that I didn't have previously.  This altered embroidery hoop brings a bit of feminine style to any room and would especially make lovely decor for a nursery, little girl's room, or as a gift for the romantics in your life.


I started with a small embroidery hoop and a piece of pink patterned fabric. After that I went overboard with all the pink, white, cream, and tan embellishments I could find! The first touch of romantic detail I added was the scalloped pink trim around the edge.


I have 100% love for the amazing and versatile Maya Road dies and I love to cut non-paper materials with them.  This "canvas" was the perfect place for some felt die cut doilies and rolled flowers. I had more neutral pre-made embellishments so I decided to use the dies to add in more shades of pink.


The rolled felt die flowers blend in perfectly with the other Maya Road felt flowers.  They look like they were meant to be together! I topped some of my flowers with tiny resin flowers, tucked in some white paper leaves, and strung a metal leaf and vintage tassel from the bottom.  I love these small touches!


I rolled a length of tulle trim to create the main flower on the right side. I also used an ornate resin frame under a felt flower for an another texture.


I topped the hoop with a die cut felt bow right on top of the screw closure. I also tied a small loop of twine and a metal bird charm.

You absolutely could add a small photo on here or a sentiment.  I nearly did both! But I decided I liked having a non-specific decor item to hang and I can always tuck a photo in when the mood strikes.

Good Times Library Card Box

Hi Roadies!!  Hope you have enjoyed all the fun projects the team has created for you since the last time I posted.  And just in case you didn't know, there is a promotion for the fun wood products that Maya Road has going on over at the website.  So, I thought this was a perfect time to share my Library Card box I did for Creavation in January.  Wood is one of my favorite things to alter, so I knew I was going to have fun with this!

The best thing about these Library Card Boxes is that you can create and embellish as much or as little as you want!  You can add as many tags or add fewer tags, it's all up to you and what you feel like creating at the time!  

One thing I like to do with wood to prep it, is cover with a white paint in a couple of thin coats, letting each coat dry in-between.  I happened to use white chalk paint this time.  I then lightly washed a shimmery pink over the entire box, just to give it a fun feel.  I started to add polka dots, but I was scared that would take it too far!

While my box was drying, I started working on tags for it.  I cut them slightly smaller than the inside dimensions of the box.  This will allow you to stack, stand and flip thru them easily. I just created tags out of pattern paper, since I didn't have any shipping tags on hand.  I printed and cut a few pictures to fit the tags, but left room for me to embellish those tags with the pictures also. 

I am going to be honest, I spent a lot of time picking out embellishments.  Not because I was being a perfectionist, but because it was so fun to see how cute I could make the tags, yet make all of them different.  I will have a list of all the fun Maya Road supplies I used at the end of my post.

Scrapboook Layout: BEAUTIFUL

Hello Roadies!

Nathalie with you today bringing you a new scrapbook layout -that was created for this year's Creativation weekend - using the beautiful Maya Road products.

 

 

 

This project is dear to my heart, as it is the only picture my sister and I took at her wedding.   So, I wanted something soft, and very feminine for the layout.   

 

 

 

It all started by creating the vase in the layout (the collection used in this project is Pink Paislee's Moonstruck collection).   A small piece of Ken Oliver's Vintage Dot Trim  was used at the base to recreate a dolly.  Next, a piece of Earl Grey jute and twine cording was attached around the vase image along with a small white Resin Bow and a Ken Oliver heart charm.  

 

 

To continue the feminine look of the layout,  some flower die cuts were created using the Vintage Dress Form and  With Love Nature steel dies.   The flowers and leaves were backed with vellum to add softness to the page, then these were attached to the layout using different widths of foam adhesives.   A few Vintage Butterfly transparencies were added in between the flowers.  Here is a look at the completed vase:

 

 

Next to frame the picture, a small cluster of embellishments was created.   The kraft Post Tag, "Beloved" wood token, and the Vintage Crafting Tassels in teal and white add just that extra charming touch to the picture.

 

 

A title was added to the piece, as well as some stickers from the collection, and some scattered flower die cuts.   Here is the final layout:

Hi Roadies! This year marks my first visit to Creativation 2017 and I am very excited to share my Creativation projects this year. Do read till the end! There are some awesome deals happening in Febuary!

 

 

Maya Road wood pallets are fun to work with. There are different sizes and shapes available - let the creativity flow! This time, I chose a 8x8 wood pallet to work with. 

 

 

 

To coordinate with my wedding dress, I chose red and white as the primary colors. 

 

 

First, i primed the wood pallet with gesso, then using the Dots ATC diecut as template, i applied textured paste on. These die cuts are so useful in a whole load of ways! Then I painted with hint of browns lightly. I wanted the base to stay natural.

 

Then i used the Cherry Red twine cording to go around a embroidery hoop. When this is done, I used some jute to sew in the centre so it looks like a dreamcatcher.

 

 

When the sewing is all done, I did some diecutting with the rolled flower die. This time, I used felt. It gives a soft look - and I love it! When you are done, just add pearls to the flower centre.

 

 

Now it is time to assemble all the other pieces together! Layering all the Maya Road goodies together is always the fun part! Here are the supplies which I have used:

This is an 8x8 pallet and I thought it would be perfect for displaying inspirational quotes here in my craft room. I went to Pinterest and found this quote that I really liked. The quote is printed with black ink with my laser printer. I ran the quote through my laminator using Deco Foil.

I painted the DIY Wood  Pallet – 8x8 cream color and let it dry. Once it was dry, I used a sponge to add Deco Foil liquid adhesive. Once it’s dry you can apply foil and the foil with stick to the adhesive only. The same process was used for the Resin Nesting Birds - Snow White and
Ornate Resin Frame – Sunshine. I colored the flowers with watercolor to match the other elements and let them dry.

I designed the flowers and leaves in my Silhouette Studio and cut them out using Silhouette Cameo. I watercolored the cut pieces and adhered them to the pallet. I layered Ornate Resin Frame – Sunshine with the Medium Vintage Paper Flowers – White and Resin Nesting Birds - Snow White. Bellow that I added Vintage Linen Burlap Treasure Bags with Jute & Twine Cording and Vintage Ken Oliver Bird Cages

. I tucked in Vintage Crafting Tassels (Gold Cap) - Milk White and two Ken Oliver Vintage Ornate Buttons that fit perfectly between the slots.

 

Here is a closer view of the Deco Foil printed quote. The 22mm Bulldog Clip – Bronze is holding the quote in place and can easily be changed with another quote for a different occasion or season.

For my card I stared by layering two pieces of patterned paper from my stash. I die cut the Notepaper Die from watercolor background that I created. I tied twine from

Jute & Twine Cording 

around the die cut and tucked Mason Jar Kraft Tag under the bow. I adhered the die cut tag to the card front using 3D foam squares.

 

 

 

 

I stamped the frame and sentiment from Banner Sentiment Stamp Set on white cardstock and fussy cut around the frame. I added it to the front using 3D foam squares. I added a Medium Vintage Paper Flower – White above the bow, a heart from Ken Oliver Heart & Key Charms under the sentiment and clipped a 22mm Bulldog Clips – Bronze on the left side of the tag. To finish the card I added sequins and watercolor splatters.

About Me | Wood Pallet

Hey Roadies!  It's Jill, and I'm sharing my wood pallet created for the Maya Road booth at Creativision (CHA).  This was my very first project of this kind, and I found that making this altered art/mixed media pallet was super easy using all the Maya Road goodies!

I started by doing a few coats of white acrylic paint on my pallet, letting it dry completely between coats.  Next, I used embossing ink and white embossing powder to alter all the metal embellishments.  If you do this, please be careful!  Those metal trinkets get super hot!  I used Ken Oliver Vintage Mini Keys, Ken Oliver Vintage Crafting Tools, Ken Oliver Vintage Bulbs and Keys, Mini Safety Pins and White Vintage Crafting Tassels for the element along the top of my pallet.

The next section of my pallet showcases the gorgeous Geometric Feather Die.  Feathers are an all-time favorite icon to use on my layouts and projects, so I had to include it on this pallet.  I used my sewing machine to stitch down the center of each feather, then adhered these to the pallet using a multi-medium matte glue.

Adding a photo (taken by my friend Tracy and printed on Instax) was the last step, clipping it to the pallet with a Bulldog Clip, also embossed in white. To embellish this area I added one of the Classic Wood Tokens painted with a thin layer of white paint.

I added some splatters of watercolor paints to the pallet to break up the white and tie in the other colors used.

Creating with Maya Road Wood Pallets

Hi Roadies!  It's Melody here today and I am sharing my wood pallet I created for CHA.  Maya Road released lost of new, fun products at CHA and I have used some of those products to create my project,  including the new 8 x 8 Wood Pallet. 

First I painted my pallet with a white paint. Once the white paint was dry I add a little watered down green and aqua paint here and there on the pallet. I used a photo that says a few thing about me and attached it with foam tape to the pallet. Using foam tape allowed me slide a few embellishments under the photo. 

 

In the top corner I used the Notepaper Die,  a Small Vintage Paper Flowers in White, and Resin Mini Mums in Snow White. and Turquoise Sea. 

In the bottom right corner I created a flower with the Rolled Flower Die and two Vintage Findings Medium Paper Leaves. I used one of the Mini Wood Embroidery Hoops and added a Wood Classic Tokens with the perfect sentiment to the center. To finish off the corner I attached a Antique Wood Ruler and a Vintage Ken Oliver Art Supplies Charm. 

The new Typewriter Die is on of my new favorite products! I cut it twice, once form cardstock and once from a gold foil. I add the gold foil behind the card stock with the keys attached. Behind the typewriter I used the DIY Mini Envelope Die to add the small envelope. The word "create" is cut with the Fanciful Create Art Die.

Mixed Media on a Pallet - By Yasmin Tölche

Hello Roadies! It's Yasmin here on the blog today and I want to share one of my CHA projects with you.. My Mixed Media Pallet. 

These pallets are fantastic to use with any project. I've used the 6x6" pallet to make a fun mixed media project using loads of Maya Road products. 

I glued loads of the new mini wood slices and added lace, resin flowers and such to my pallet. The photo is a vintage photo I found in my stash. Maya Road products are perfect for all sorts of projects, also mixed media ones. 

The small resin flowers with bling and roses are all Maya Road products. Also the little leaves. They are form Ken Olivers new line :)

A little fun with the Maya Road wood pallet

Hello Roadies! It is Yvonne here to share my Maya Road wood pallet for CHA 2017.

 

I had so much fun dressing up my wood pallet. The pallet was first painted with chalkboard paint in aqua and then I sanded some parts of it for a slightly distressed look.
