Double Wreath Fun!

 Hello fellow crafters! Shelley here to share one of my projects I created for CHA in January. I love wreaths and so I decided to make a double wreath because I wanted to make a "diorama" of sorts using some amazing products from Maya Road. 

 

 

First I took two foam wreaths. The first one I wrapped with burlap and the second one I wrapped with some funky paper I found at antique shop. Then I just hot glued one on top of the other. The next thing I did was grab my spray paint can in gold and showered all my Maya Road goodies in it! I sprayed the white stars and clear star pins, the bottle brush trees, the deer, and wooden tokens and frames. Once those were dried I started constructing my wreaths. 

 Using the gold pins I created a starry sky by just pushing them into the foam wreath. I alternated gold with white and kept one big star in the middle.

 

 

I loved these tokens and wanted to do something fun with them. First I added a small letter sticker to the wood and then spray painted the token. When it was dry I removed the letter sticker so the wood would show through but you still got the gold effect. I glued these to the back of the gold painted wooden hoops! Then I added each letter hood to a piece of Maya Road twine that I strung from end to end on the back of the wreath using Maya Roads miniature gold clothes pins! Perfect! A Maya Road hassle on each end just added a little piece of fabulousness to the project! 

With my gold painted deer and bottle brush trees I added them to a piece of moss I added to the bottom of the wreath. Gold and white star pins were added to the tree tops for a little bit of whimsy.

Floral Spring Banner

Greeting Roadies! Jess here today to herald in spring with this bright floral banner. I am so ready for spring and got a head start on my mantle this season with the hopes that my decor would urge Mother Nature to cooperate and bring on the warmth and flowers!


I love to have a beautiful mantle display for every season.  Our fireplace is visible as soon as you walk in the door so this festive decor is one of the first things visitors can see.  As my mantle area is very narrow I always add a banner to add some height to the area. 


I cut the pennants from a chipboard sheet, covered them in paper and added the scalloped trim to the bottoms of each.  I also added a length of burlap trim to each, and a kraft doily on top for unity between all the pennants. 


I wanted my banner to really be full of blooms.  Each pennant has at least one flower! I used a variety of flower textures, chipboard pieces like the gold painted bird here, and metal.


I also added a sweet resin bow on the "r" pennant, and hung a few elements from the ribbon instead of securing them on the pennants.  I like the added movement this brings.


I kept my chipboard alphas simple, as they needed to pop against the busy flower backgrounds.  I painted them cream an used a clear glossy coat over the top for added shine. 


I just love the shabby chic floral extravaganza this turned into!

BOO-A Witch's Kettle

Hi Roadies!  Katrina from Paper, Scissors and Glue to share a little Halloween door hanger that is quick to make with some Maya Road goodies.

I picked up the kettle at a local craft store. It was already black, so it was quick to get started on.  I replaced the sheer ribbon they had with some the Paper Twine cording in the Cloud color. The white was too stark, so I just took some black watercolor paint and changed it to black. I hit it with a heat gun to dry it quickly, so that I could move on to decorating.

Starting at the top, I created the "boiling potion" by adding various strips of ribbon. First, attach the Satin Scallop Edge Trim-Cream at the top of the kettle at the back. Attach Crochet Twill Trim-Green on the front of the kettle, adhering slightly lower than the Scallop Edge trim.  Attach Tutu Tulle-Sunrise Orange to the front, overlapping the Crochet Twill trim.  Make spider out of Mixed Blossom Mini chipboard.  Cover with glue, add gold glitter and then eyes.  Attach at top of pot.

I used a piece from the Canvas Pendant Banner Album, but you could use any canvas pieces that you have laying around, to cut a ghost shape out of.  I painted white, outlined with a black marker and attached some enamel dots for eyes.  Adhere to the back of your pot, letting him peek out over the potion.

Cluster some embellishments, tags and goodies in the corner. Paint wood veneer bird with black paint.  Use a Mini Triangle Canvas Banner piece to create a witch hat.  Color banner piece black and let dry. Cut an oval out of black paper slightly larger than the base of triangle. Cut a slot in the middle of the oval and slip banner piece in slot.  Run Twine Cording in Blackberry around hat and adhere in the back. Make a bow and attach to front.  Add a Bingo Motif button or two if you like!  I also added some of the Satin Scalloped Edge Trim in Midnight as a cute little ruffle border. This is where you PLAY and have fun!

Create your title by altering some chipboard letters. I had a hard time deciding between the Lisa Chipboard alphabet sets I had. I decided on the uppercase one, but I was tempted to use the lower case! After covering with pattern paper, I sanded the edges down.  I like the way the white made the letters stand out, so I did not ink my edges. I actually sanded a little more than I normally do, to make the white more prominent!  Mount your letters on a Kraft Decorative Journaling Tag. Add a Wise Owl Resin Charm in White, because well...it's cute, it's for Halloween and he's really cute!

And there you have a cute door hanger for your house, teacher's room or office.  Yes, this is going to my office to hang! Get to crafting, you know you love fall crafts!

a new favorite embellishment from Maya Road

 

Hello Roadies! Kimberly here today, happy to be sharing a card with you! Maya Road has long been known for its fabulous embellishments and they are now adding to that collection with dies! I am so excited! These dies cut everything, have a fantastic font, and are the prettiest shade of teal I have ever seen! From the moment I received the dies, I have not been able to stop using them! I know that you will love them just as much!

 

You can see the words hello and friend cut from basic black card stock here. Both of these words come in one set. Perfectly brilliant as I will use both words together and apart frequently. The font is trendy and timeless. The size of these words will also make them usable for both cards and layouts.

 

With my favorite new word dies, I had to continue using more of my favorite Maya Road products! The Felt Roses in Fushsia Pink are one of my favorite flowers. I love the colors, the leaves, and the size!

 

Each of the roses was adhered to a Linen Mini Pennant Banner Piece. Banners and the kraft look, again more favorites!

 

 

 

 

To ground the pennants on the card, I placed a strip of Candy Dots Fabric Tape in Licorice Black onto the card, over a piece of patterned paper. Polka dots, another personal favorite. To add a different look to the pennants, instead of twine, I "hung" them from Cream Pearl Ball Pins. The pennants were glued to the card, not the pins for a better hold.

With this project and post, I say a very fond farewell to the Maya Road Design Team. It has been my honor to have been a part of this team for the past year. Thank you for everything, Maya Road.

Hey Roadies!  Hope your summer (or winter?!) is going well.  It's pretty hot here where I am, so it's fun to stay in and craft when the heat index is over 100 degrees!

I have a card for you today using a lot of Maya Road goodies, including a piece from a canvas mini album!

This is a rather large card, 5x7 inches, but it gives you a base with plenty of room to create with. I started by covering the card base with a sheet of pattern paper trimmed 4.75 x 6.75 inches. Then I went to work altering my Canvas Pendant Banner piece. You could do this with any of the canvas pieces, the heart or the star also.

I covered the canvas with a thin layer of gesso, mainly because most of what I was working with was colored white, not ivory!  Using washi tape, placed a stencil over it, taping the stencil tightly down. I mixed three different pink colors of gelatos and some water together to create a type of colored paste. Then using a stiff bristled brush, I painted and daubed over the stencil. Here is the result once I was done.  Pardon the messy work mat, I am not sure how anyone keeps those clean, because I can't!

And then some more fun layering embellishments together to create the focal point of the card. Using a kraft envelope, felt flower, transparent butterflies, framed saying and more.

I ran some sheer ribbon thru the grommets of the banner piece and tied a bow.  After a misting mishap (eek!), I tied a separate bow and added it with the other one.  Tucking some of the vintage trinket pins in behind the bows finished off that area.

Banner

 

Hi Roadies Angella with you today, I wanted to share a banner i altered using the the Skinny Pennant Chipboard Banner.

I do love creating vintage shabby altered projects.

I create the effect by  spraying the chipboard banner with spray  gesso to give a chalky effect, then inked the edges with yellow chalk ink.

I then attached pieces of pattern paper onto the banner and  gave it a light sand all over,

to blend the paper   into the banner.

Also I have used Deborah Mini Alphabet letters and gave them the crackle effect.

 

 

Banners are great for all occasions, birthdays, Easter, Christmas or just because.

I hope i have inspired you today to create for any occasion.

creating tassel garland with Pleated Glitter Tulle

 

Hi Roadies! Kimberly here today with a super cute and trendy banner to share with you! Tassel garlands are all the rage in party decor and I thought it would be fun to add one to a special birthday card! Using some great products from Maya Road made it come together just how I imagined!

 

Isn't it cute? Keep reading for a tutorial showing you how easy it is to make this tassel garland!

 

Gather up these supplies; Pleated Glitter Tulle, Twine Cording, scissors and liquid glue.

 

Trim a small section away from the rest of the Pleated Tulle trim. I am using Pleated Glitter Tulle in Orange Soda.

 

Apply a small amount of glue to each end of the top of the trim.

 

Roll the Pleated Glitter Tulle along the top edge, keeping the roll snug and not too loose.

 

Once the small tassel has dried, adhere it to a piece of Twine Cording with glue. For this card, I used Twine Cording Solids Pumpkin Orange.

After securing the banner across the front of the card, I added two small bows of Twine Cording to each end.

Hi, Roadies! This is Leah checking in with a scrapbook layout featuring more fun embellishments from Maya Road! 

I know for those of you that live where it gets colder, winter can be a drag. But since we don't get to experience it very often, we cherish every bit of snow we see! These photos were from a recent trip to see family in the Midwest.

I decided to take a bit of a different twist on the traditional look of a lot of winter themed layouts, and instead of using cooler tones, I went with warmer ones to make it feel cozy.

Beautiful You

Hi Roadies! It's Julia here today with a peek at the latest Maya Road Kit. It's called Beautiful You and is very aptly named as it's such a beautiful kit! I was excited to create some projects using this new kit and I have a few of them to share with you now.

Beautiful You is a card kit and enough product in it to create 6 cards...and more! You'll have tons of goodies left over to have more creative fun with. My first card design uses some of the great embellishments and papers included in the kit. I always love adding stitching to my projects so I pulled out my sewing machine and added in some stitching details.

It's easy to created rolled roses with cardstock or patterned paper and a circle punch. Just punch out a large circle (mine was 2.5") and then starting at the outer edge, cut a spiral shape until you reach the center. Roll up your spiral tightly starting the outer edge. This will become the middle or your flower. Slightly release spiral once it is all tightly wound and then adhere.

My second card uses many of the same elements but in a more vintage style. I love creating little banners with the banner chipboard set that is included in the kit.

When creating with items in the kit, don't be afraid to mix things up a little. The glassine bag makes a great layer under the banner. I thought it was a little long for this design so I trimmed off the bottom to use on another project.

Speaking of glassine bags, they also make REALLY sweet treat bags. I've filled mine with red cinnamon hearts for Valentine's and trimmed them out with various bits and pieces from the kit.

adding extra touches to your cards

 

Hello Roadies! Kimberly here today, sharing some quick ideas to add an extra special touch to your cards with wonderful Maya Road  embellishments!

 

To make the bow on my card, I unrolled a piece of Paper Twine Cording-Canary. I love this cording! Its tissue paper that has been rolled into thick string, but you can unroll it and get even more creative. I folded each end of the tissue over, to meet in the middle. Using Twine Cording-Saffron Yellow, I wrapped the center of the bow. I held the ends of the twine to the tissue with a bit of glue.

Instead of just adhering my bow to the doily, I added more weight behind it with stickers and a Kraft Scroll Frame Journaling Tag.

 

One more touch to my baby card was using the Classic Ampersand Clips. The sentiment sticker had an ampersand already, but by trimming it off and adding the dimensional clip, I think it added a great touch!

You can tell I am hanging on tightly to the last days of summer with this card! Mini Triangle Canvas Banners is where this card started. I had placed them on my patterned paper and the rest fell into place!

They were the perfect size for my card. I cannot wait to play with these banners more, I am thinking of stamping on them and adding color with ink!

 

To finish off the banners, I added a piece of Twine Cording-Saffron Yellow. I looped it on a couple of the banners for a bit of whimsy. I hope I have inspired you to try some easy tricks to add extra oomph to your cards with Maya Road embellishments!
