Memory box Mini Album

Hi Roadies,

Angella here from the land down under, 

Roadies today I am going to show you how I created the Memory box mini album I created for Winter 2013 CHA, I created the box using the 8 x 8 binder book .

 

But firstly the story behind the Memory box, last Oct 2012 I had my first international trip to America , for Artistic Journey at the Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie TX .  I got to meet so many new friends  and meet Lisa and Dina from the DT, and of course a catch up with  Caroline Maya Road.

I had the best time and I wanted to record my trip with a special album, and a special tribute to the ladies from the Crafty Scrapper. The ruler that forms the sides and bottom is from one of the little vintage shops in the area., thanks to Dina for introducing me to the vintage shops. I did return with very heavy luggage.

I have photographed the project in raw so you get a better view of contructing. So firstly cover your binder and pages in desired pattern paper.

 

Firstly remove 2 chipboard pages from the binder Album, cut yourself  a peice of paper 8x6 inches.

you can use any pattern paper or mulberry paper etc.  Lay you paper down on a flat surface, lay your 2 chipboard pages together -top end to top end - but leave a small gap as you want the paper to form as a  hinge. Glue paper in place .

Using a cropadile or a similar tool make 2 holes on each side of your stand, about halfway down from top.

tread twine through the holes this will  give your stand stability. adhere  the ends of the twine on one side of the  stand.

Using strong glue ahere your stand to back base of your binder

Roughly measure the twine when you are happy how you want your box to stand. tie and adhere Wooden Mini Clothes pegs in place

Now to make your box within the binder, you can use a wooden ruler as I have or strips of very thick chipboard. cut to size. 2 lenghts at 8.1/2 inches and 1 lenght at 8 1/4 inch , my ruler is 1 inch high

adhere in place with very strong glue, you can use some small nails to tack in place as well for stability.  

then you can attach some legs if you wish!

Decorate with Maya road Embellishments, to make a gorgeous show peice.

I have also used some loose pages from the 5x7 binder tab album just for some interest in the project.

It's all about the bag

Hi Roadies, Angella here  accessorising  with Maya Road, you can wear it, carry it or just make it your own !

Love that I can create any style,   and handmade is all the fashion.

I created my bag with a  Maya Road Alterable Canvas Messenger bag !  tissue paper ( which I printed myself onto tissue paper) , gesso and structured gel. I tore the tissue paper into peices and glued onto the canvas using the gesso and structured gel, I just randomly placed to get that shabby look.

then I attached lace, covered buttons, Vintage button pins,  Alterable wood buttons, Wood mini spools, Vintage finding beaded centres, Vintage rasberry beads, Metal vintage trinket love hangers,

Vintage findings Mamma's Doilies, Antique Pearl centre flowers , Organza Primrose cream flowers,

Vintage Alterable beads , Vintage edge mums , Vintage sequin Blossoms , Mini Organza roses ribbon organza tea garden trim,Ecru crochet trim, Vintage tape measure trim

Please don't laugh...

Hi Roadies!

Ania here w/...uhm...a little project that a 5th grader kid could have done way better, but hey, just because I am a scrapbooker doesn't mean I'm particulary crafty in other fields, and just because I have a sewing machine doesn't mean I use it for stuff other than paper sewing!!

But - I'm trying, and you see - right before we went off on a longer vacation I needed a storage box for this cardgame (Set - which by the way is the BEST card game out there ever.....for kids and grown ups alike..it's like a mini mensa test :p....our then six year old saw combinations we didn't see, and vice versa...so fun!).

Right. So I was forced to imrprovise a felt bag for this stack of cards.

A little wrapping, machine sewing, then hand sewing...as I said..a child could have done it better, but hey, I'm a novice and pretty proud of my forced solution!

I even decided to play with the fun gelato pens (Yellow-orange colorgroup - BEST COLORCOMBO EVER!). Smoshed it around the canvas, sprayed Maya Iridescent Pearl Mist over and smoshed some more and set the color w/ a heating gun. Vibrant, fun colorhues.

I sure like the color combo here...the orange butterfly against the lovely turquiose felt, combined w/the neutral hues from the wooden butterfly and the burlap ribbon. Also like the fact that there's so different fabrics going on here - burlap, canvas, felt....

Sure..the design and execution of the little bag/pouch could have been better...but...as I said..I don't do this on a regular basis (or, like - ever) - so I'm proud!

This I promise you..

You know when you go on a holiday or something like that, and have grand plans that "this time I'll actually create a minialbum about the whole trip"? Then all the stuff you have gathered during the travel just sits in its binder, gathering dust (I may or may not have three or more travels/holidays I haven't done anything about yet..cough)? How do you make sure you actually will create and finish a travel journal?

Well, other than bringing a prepared one with you while you travel, it'll be to create the cover in advance and show it on this blog as a promise to all the readers so you just have to finish it when you get home...no?

At least that's my hope...*grin*

I took a 5 ring tab book and used the cover for this one. I think I'll use the tabs when I get back home to finish the mini, we'll see..

I then grabbed my molding paste and a number of chipboards I had lying around, including the arrows, a heart from the Love Mini Chipboard Set and a basic shape from the Road Rage Signs. Lathering the molding paste on, I adhered the chipboard upon the paste. When dry, I applied white gesso over twice.

I then grabbed a wiping cloth and the Popsicle Blue Maya Mist, sprayed some mist on the cloth then wiped it roughly over the dried coversurface.

It yields a light, pretty lovely and uneven color (love how this method really brings out the dimension in the cover - both from the chipboards and from the molding paste).

I also sprayed the mist directly on the New York Lowercase alphabets - look at the difference in color! On the raw chipboard the mist is intense and pretty dark blue with a hint of dark teal..or is this color called peacock mayhaps? Nevertheless, I love the difference in intensity & effect depending on method/surface... I outlined the letters with liquid pearl and filled it with glossy accents when done.

I've already prepared some pages - I'm thinking it'll contain both memorabilas, photos, pieces of maps and brochures and stuff, as well as my notes in advance (shown above is the printed out metro map plus notes about the places we must visit: which trains to take, what station to get off at and the opening hours etc)..with the cover finished even before we've left, I totally have an incentive to actually create and finish a whole travelling-minibook, no? Maybe if I promise to share the finished product here on the blog I actually have to do that..cough..:p

Destination Disney

Happy Monday Roadies! Jen here with a easy and complete album for your beloved Disney photos.  Disney is HUGE and very popular among Local Scrap stores, so I thought I would create a Disney album for my friend Lesley and her families trip to Disney World.

I used the 8x8 binder with page protectors and went ahead and printed 20 8x8 full page photos for the inside.  Not all albums IMO need to have paper scrapbook pages.  This is like a jumbo photo album. 

I used the Super Nova chipboard set to create my own Mickey and covered the pieces with black cardstock.

I covered the New York alphabet with Maya Road glitter in black for my title and added that cute bow tie brad for good measure.

A little something and a Summer Mini Album

Hey everyone!  It's Melissa here again and I have got a couple little projects to share with you... just because I can't stop using my Maya Road whenever I get the chance! 

First off, my little girl celebrated her 4th birthday this past weekend, and I just needed to "dress up" the cupcake stand with a little something from my stash. ;)

Enter the Small Pink Organza Roses Ribbon!  I simply took some clear two-sided tape and went around the entire edge of the rims  of the stand and adhered the rose trim.  I got a lot of compliments on this and it was so quick and easy to do!

As for this summer...this is one of the mini-albums that I created for Summer CHA this past year!

 

I used the 3-ring Scroll Edge Chipboard Album as my base and then went crazy with Maya Road embellishments from there!!  On this front page you can see the Deborah Chipboard Alphabet covered with glitter as part of my title, "Fun at the Beach."  You can also see more mini chipboard sets, How's the Weather and the Tiny Banner Chipboard Bits.  And what's a project without a little trim, right??  I used the Green Candy Stripes Ribbon as an embellishment for the rings and the cute little trim peeking out from under the cover...that's the new Ruffle Edge Trim in Gold. 

 
And here are my inside pages.  These were actually taken this summer when we had a fun little trip to Virginia Beach!  It was the first time for the kids to see the ocean, and boy did they love it!!

The alterability of Maya Road products.....

As a crafter that is one of my most favorite things about Maya Road and believe me I have many favorites. So many of the products that Maya Road offers allows you to manipulate and alter them to your liking. This little album is no exception! I started with the School Bus chipboard album and decided what I really wanted to do was a vacation album. So with a little creative cutting with my scissors I was able to transform a school bus  into something that looked more like a minivan!

Use Maya Mist to Create a Coloful Album

I love the kraft color of the large binder album with sheet protectors (you can see it on the first page of the new catalog). Kraft is actually my favorite neutral. I knew I wanted to make a fun, colorful album, but I didn't want to cover up all that gorgeous kraft. My solution was to create a large colorful sheet of custom paper and use it to partially cover the album.

I created the custom paper by starting with gesso and swipes of acrylic paint on a large sheet of paper. When the paint dried, I used several colors of Maya Mist and stencils to add stenciling right over the paint. Maya Mist dries wonderfully over acrylics. I also used my custom paper to cut little accents for the inside of the album.

I created a little questionnaire for my family to fill out about our recent trip to Spain. It was fun to see how everyone answered the questions...my boys remembered little details that I had forgotten!

Maya Mist-dyed "Zion National Park" Album

Recently the boys and I visited Zion National Park. We had a great time exploring and hiking, and we took lots of pictures. I created this mini album as a remembrance of our trip.

I took the colors of the mini from Zion National Park itself...orange/brown rocks, blue sky, green foliage. I added some burlap to give natural texture, and used awesome Maya Road stamps as accents and journaling blocks.
