Teacher Thank You Cards

Hi Roadies! It's Melody here on the blog today. As summer winds down and we get ready for fall it is time to think about back to school. Where I live some of the schools started this week. With that in mind I have two teacher thank you to share. It always a good idea to have them ready to go when you need them! 

I love how easy Maya Road dies make putting a card together! First I die cut the Smile Frame ATC Die to create the frame in the center of the card. The thank you sentiment is cut with the Fanciful Thank You Die, once from card stock and once from a lightweight chipboard to add a little more depth. The scissors are cut with the Bobbin & Scissors Die and the stars with the Fanciful Wish Die from glittered card stock. 

I finished off the card with a few pretty embellishments including Vintage Rick Rack Crochet Trim in Cloud White, a Vintage Ruler, and a Small Vintage Paper Flowers in Red.

I used the Fanciful Thank You Die again on my second card, adding a little shading with distress inks. I adhered the sentiment to a Corrugated Kraft Mail Tag. The panel behind the tag is cut with the Scalloped Frame ATC Die. In the upper corner I added a Felt Rose in Maroon Red and a Vintage Wood Stitch Heart and Arrow Charm. 

The buttons are cut with Mini Buttons Die. I wrapped Cherry Red Jute & Twine Cording around the tag and hung a Vintage Mini Key Ring Charm and a sweet Vintage Crafting Tassel in Sky Blue.

Let's Go with Maya Road

Hey Roadies, it's Katrina back on the blog again.  This time to share a layout with you.  I love to mix "feminine" with "masculine" and that's just what I tried on this layout.  The Maya Road wood embellishments, along with the Maya Road flower embellishments are a great combo!

After piecing the basic layout together, I started pulling Maya Road items out to figure out what I wanted to use.  The "smile" wooden token was one of the first, so I knew that was probably going to go on there somewhere!  

And I know a lot of people talk about design "rules", but I tend to go with what feels right and looks balanced.  That led to adding one of the wood slices down in the opposite corner from the camera token.  And as an after thought, I added a little punched butterfly on the wood slice and fell in love with how it looked!

Since the paper collection I was working with didn't have any pink, it was easy to add some with a felt flower!  The felt flowers come in so many colors and are so versatile, I want to grab them for every project.  I added some of the new resin mum pieces as accents.  The kraft tickets worked well as a border under my picture.  Toss in a few die cuts from the paper collection and you have a sweet cluster for your page!

Create Art Mixed Media Canvas

Hi Roadies! It's Melody here on the blog today. I have a mixed media canvas to share with you today. Next month I am going to be moving to a new home and my new studio! This canvas is my first project for the new room! I used the Fanciful Create Art Steel Dies for inspiration. 

 I started with an 8 x 8 canvas and painted the canvas with a pale yellow paint. When the paint was dry I sprayed on a white distress stain and splattered white paint. When the canvas had completely dry I used a stencil and a light texture paste to add texture to the background. 

I cut the words three times from white card stock and layered them together to add more depth. The sentiment is layered on a Corrugated Kraft Mail Tag and I added a Mini Arrow Charm to accent the tag. 

Maya Road has so many beautiful embellishments and dies! In keeping with the art theme, I cut two flowers from watercolor paper with the Geometric Blossom Die, and watercolored the flowers with pretty blue and green watercolors. I added the flowers to two of the corners to anchor my embellishments. Next I just played with my embellishments until I came up with a look and feel that felt right to me. I used the Rolled Flower Die to create to two flowers from felt. I love the touch of texture felt can give to a project. 

I added a few more flowers, a Tulle Mini Blooms in Milk White, a small and medium Vintage Paper Flower, and a pearl flower. Under the pearl flower is a Ornate Resin Frame in Seafoam. I finished the corner off with a Metal Vintage Trinkets - @ Clip and a wooden token is from the Wood Geometric Shape Tokens. 

I picked up a very inexpensive paint brush and added a couple coats to Gesso the the brush. Once the Gesso had dried I added a strip of Self-Adhesive Rhinestone Trim in Sparkle Silver, two strips of Vintage Rick Rack Crochet Trim in Cloud White, and a Crystal Circle Button. The My Story token from the Wood 24/7 Journaling Tokens and just seemed perfect for the canvas! Then I had to add one of my favorite embellishments, a Vintage Oh Snap Camera. 

The canvas is finished off with a Feathered Friend Resin Embellishment, a wooden embellishment from the Wood Measure Once, Cut Twice Embellishments, and a scattering of Resin Mini Mums in Turquoise Sea and Snow White.

Summer Gift Tags

Hi Roadies! It's Melody here on the blog. I love to have gift tags ready to go when I need them. A special tag can dress up any package!! I created three summer themed tags to share today with some Maya Road embellishments and dies. 

  

For my first tag I chose a bright, summery patterned paper for the base of the tag. At the top I added a eyelet and ribbon. Next I used the Smile Frame ATC Die to create the card, adding yellow card stock behind the sentiment. In the corner I attached  on of my favorite clips, the Metal Vintage Trinkets - Sunny Day Clips. 

Next I layered a Mini Wood Embroidery Hoop, a Small Vintage Paper Flowers in Pink, and a Vintage Oh Snap Camera that I accented with rhinestones. Off to the side I tucked in a Framed Sayings Kraft Piece in White. I finished off with a row of rhinestones and a few scattered rhinestones from the Self-Adhesive Rhinestone Trim in Ballet Pink. 

On my second tag I used the Sunburst ATC Die, inlaying the sun rays with yellow card stock sponged with distress inks. I used a glue for metal to attach the Sailboat Clip and added a row of Self-Adhesive Rhinestone Trim in Sparkle Silver. In the center of the sun I added a Resin Mini Mum in Turquoise Sea. The sentiment is added with the Steel Die - Fanciful Hello Friend. I cut the sentiment twice, once from card stock and once from a lightweight chip board. At the top I adhered a Tulle Mini Blooms - Teal and a Wood Mini Clothes Pins in Silver to attached the tag to a gift bag or gift. 

Last up is a birthday themed tag because you can never have too many birthday tags! Here I attached a square envelope for the Kraft Love Note Envelopes and added a token from the Wood Birthday Tokens, a Felt Rose in Carnation Pink, a Bronze Gift Charm, and two Trinket Pins in Vintage Pearl.

At the top of the tag is a sweet Pretty Resin Bows in Porcelain Pink. The sentiment is cut with the Steel Die - Fanciful Wish and sponged with a couple of pink inks. The final touch is a piece of  Vintage Rick Rack Crochet Trim in Cloud White.

Hi Roadies! Belly is here on the blog today. There are so many uses of canvas, mixed media is one of my favorite! Paint, draw, for expressing your personal creative minds... But it's also great for making with dimensions and pop-ups like what I am going to show you today.

 

 

Great coffee is the most refreshing way to start your day! This mug is a die-cut chipboard piece which I colored, stamped and covered with embossing powder. Just before the top layer of melted embossing powder cooled down, put the Maya Road Wood Daily Grind Token inside in order to let the mug uniquely.

 

 

Folding a stack of newspaper print pattern papers to form the scene, I put a Maya Road Tall Cup Clip behind the papers to give this corner an eye catching point, which can also match with the dairy scene.

 

 

 

 

The flowers on the top part reminds us of garden houses, the smell of flowers and leaves, and the beautiful bird songs flying in the air, our dream place to have a chat and a cup of coffee with friends.

Pet Me-Using a Neutral Color Scheme

Hey Roadies!  Don't you love to capture memories?!  This layout today is a pretty special one.  Jetson (the fluffy dog) is usually scared of everyone, especially men. Our friends, Tony (in the picture) and Laura bred Sheldon, the other dog in the picture.  Tony has made it a mission for Jetson to be comfortable around him.  He finally succeeded and I had my camera ready!

 

I knew some Maya Road embellishments would take part in the layout as soon as I started on it.  AND I knew that I wanted to keep the color to neutrals on my embellishments.  So I pulled out my kraft, wood, and cream colored embellishments to get to work!  The little envelopes seem to be a go to for me.  They were the first thing I reached for and knew one of them was staying on the layout.  I folded the flap slightly and then placed a label sticker with some foam adhesive on it right on top. I also bent the flap for a little dimension.

And there is a whole lot of Maya going on in this picture!  I wanted a border and I came across the corrugated kraft tags when I was looking for embellishments and decided making them into a border would be a fun way to get them on my layout.  Add a little twine and some resin flowers to cover the hole in the tag and I was set!

The little wood token actually fell onto my layout and I decided I liked where it fell! I love happy accidents like that.  Thank goodness it wasn't paint or ink!  

The taupe felt rose fit right into my color scheme and I just added some stickers around it and tucked that ADORABLE mason jar clip in behind it. LOVE those and it was a perfect way to use it!

Honestly I was a little stuck until I decided on the neutral color scheme for my embellishments. If you have some bright colors or hard patterns, give the neutral twist a try!  I am glad I did!  Have a great day and weekend!

Hi Roadies! It's Melody here are the blog today. I have a 12 x 12 scrapbook page to share with you. The picture is one of my favorites from my daughter's engagement photos. I used one of my favorite color combinations and some beautiful Maya Road embellishments that go perfect with the photo. 

I started with a piece of 12 x 12 patterned paper and chose a couple more patterns to add to the page. I backed the photo with a thin piece of chipboard and then attached the photo to the page with dimensional dots. I like to elevate the photo just a bit so I can slide embellishments under the photo.

The two Corrugated Kraft Mail Tags are painted with a light coat of gesso. The Mini Arrow Charm is accented with a silver marker. The doilies are die cut with the Vintage Doily Die and the wooden token from the Wood Hashtag Tokens is perfect with the photo. 

 On the right side of the page I added with sentiment with the "With Love" Script Die and dotted the "i" with a Resin Mini Mums in Turquoise Sea.

Below the photo I attached a strip of Vintage Rick Rack Crochet Trim in Cloud White and I grouped some flowers including a Tulle Mini Blooms in Teal, small and medium Vintage Paper Roses, a Felt Roses in Milk White, a Small Paper Leaves. The diamond is cut with the Geometric Diamond Die from a silver glittered card stock. I finished up with a Resin Nesting Birds in Snow White, a gessoed Wooden Heart, and a painted Chipboard Heart.

Work Selfie

Hey Roadies!  It's Katrina from Paper, Scissors and Glue on this fine Friday to share a layout that is out of my normal scrapping element.  You might think it's the size, 8.5 x 11, but that isn't it!  It's the clean and simple look.  Yes, I am not a clean and simple girl at all, but it's fun to expand your creative side and I decided I was going to try it with this layout.  And it really just fell into place, without me trying to add more stuff.  Yes, I like stuff!

I knew I wanted to do a type of cluster in the corner, so I started pulling out things that I thought would work.  I ended up with the felt flower, resin frame, kraft tag and then the canvas triangle banner pieces.  

I started by placing the kraft tag under my picture and built my cluster on that.  I knew I needed something at the bottom of my picture and those canvas pieces were calling my name to use them.  

I love the new acrylic pieces and this "hello" one fit perfect on my layout!  I added a smaller date label underneath it just to anchor it to my page and not have it floating!

So, try something out of your normal crafting routine, like a different sized layout, pocket page, altered project, etc.  You might just find a new love and an added spark to your creativity!  Have a great weekend!

Cards for Mom and Dad

Hi Roadies! It's Jocelyn on the blog today with a couple of cards. I used new Maya Road dies to make a feminine and a more masculine card. For both of these cards, I used repetition in the die-cuts to show how a single die can have a big impact.

 

The card for mom has pretty flowers using the Rolled Flower Die. I used narrow craft tweezers to roll the flowers, which worked perfectly for these flowers. They were so easy to make! I die-cut them out of three double-sided papers. I added a Felt Rose, a new "#love" acrylic embellishment, and a Small Vintage Paper Flower.

 

Below the flower cluster, I layered Roses Vintage Lace Trim and the new notebook die. I turned the vellum notebook die-cut sideways; the scored lines add great texture.

For my next card, I was thinking Father's Day, but it would also work for graduation, birthday, or even an all occasion card.

 

I prefer fairly clean and simple cards for men, but the new glasses die packs a punch! I die-cut the glasses out of four patterned papers and mix-and-matched the lenses and frames. I die-cut four more frames out of a thin chipboard to add dimension underneath. 

 

To finish the card, I added the Lemon Yellow Jute and Twine Cord and a Royal Crown clip. To make the clip red, I pressed both sides of the clip into an embossing ink pad and then heat embossed the clip with red embossing powder. If you try this technique, be sure to not touch the clip for a while after heating it. The Royal Crown clip is perfect for Father's Day or a graduation card.
