Hi Roadies! Kimberly here today with a card that is full of fun embellishments from Maya Road! Is there anything better than adding fun touches to your cards? Especially cards for someone special and deserving!

 

My card started with this awesome flower, Burlap Posie. To give it leaves, I used Zipper Trim Leaf Green. I split the zipper into two parts and folded them each in half and adhered each part behind the flower. Such a cool way to create leaves!

Under the corner of the flower, I tucked a small piece of chipboard. I love Maya Road chipboard for its amzing surface! It allows you to customize your pieces for your project. And look at how well it is covered with a gold glitter pen!

 

On the tag, I had fun layering embellishments. The heart is the inside of a speech bubble. It was also covered in gold glitter. A small trinket pin was tucked underneath the flower. And also a butterfly. The transparency images are perfect for spots like this!

A Forest of Maya Road Trees.....

I had such a great time creating this forest of trees using Maya Road trims and other goodies for CHA-Winter this year! I know the Christmas season has passed but I thought I would share them with you to showcase all the incredible Maya Road products I used! These trees would be great for any season and color scheme. The base of each of these trees was made using old candle holders turned upside down and a Large Maya Road Bottlecap. You can see how to make one HERE!

First up is the elegant off white, gold, and burlap trees!

I used some paper-mache cone trees from my local craft store for all of the trees. The first tree on the left I wrapped with Vintage Lace Tape and then added some metal butterflies using a Vintage Round Pearl Pin to keep them in place. A wooden doily with a Vintage Beaded Center finished off the front of this beauty! On top a kraft doily.

The second tree I wrapped in Afternoon Tea Trim in Milk. On the bottom are Burlap Posies, next are Antique Skeleton keys being held in place with Crystal Trinket Pins, and the top was finished off with another burlap posy with Snowflake Transparency and some Kraft Tickets.

The final tree in this group was made by wrapping burlap around the cone base and then wrapping Maya Road Twine in Khaki and creating a bow on top. I finished this tree off by gluing a Maya Road Linen Burlap Rose onto a Wooden Doily and added a bit of Maya Road Pleated Tulle!

 

The second set of trees I created are my Pink and Green trees. I like to think that even though there were for Christmas you could adapt them to any holiday or color theme you want!

These trees are ALL about the trim!!!! The first tree I painstakingly wound Maya Road twine around the top half of the cone. Next I wound Maya Road Sparkle Trim on the lower half. I placed a piece of silver pipe-cleaner  around the middle to break up the two trims and glued the gorgeous Mini Antique Metal Roses in Lime Green above that. I misted a wooden doilie using Maya Mist in Lime and added another of the Vintage Beaded Center.

Tree two I first wrapped completely with Maya Road Paper Twine Cording in Rose and then added some fringed strips of Vintage Tape Measure in Rose Pink. I glued some Mini Sparkle and Shine Resin Flowers on the tree and added a small wooden spool wrapped with more twine and attached to the tree with a Crystal Star pin.

Tree three was completely wrapped in the Maya Road Sparkle Trim. I added Maya Road black Bingo pieces and then wrapped a piece of silver pipe-cleaners around each piece. A little silver glitter added to the Maya Road Wooden bird and some more Maya Road Sparkle trim to finish off this tree.

The last three trees were my favorites!

The tree on the left was first covered in old maps and some Modge Podge. Next I strung Maya Road twine around the cone and created a bow on top. Next I took Maya Road Fabric Tape in Sky Blue and made flags with it. I put those flags on a pin and stuck them into the cone. I also used Maya Road Vintage Kraft Arrows and did the same thing. I Maya Road Bottle cap and another Bingo piece and this tree was done.

The next tree was again made with Modge Podge and some old sheet music. Maya Road Alterable Crochet Trim-Double Dot and some Mini Antique Metal Roses in Turquoise completed this adorable little tree.

The last tree was again a labor of love in the winding of Maya Road Twine around the cone base. I then glued Maya Road Wooden Buttons around the tree. Zipper trim on the bottom to give it a finished look and then I strung some Maya Road Mini Pennant Canvas Banners on some floss to complete the look.

Still More Chalkboard Inspiration

Hi Roadies! It's Julia back with STILL more chalkboard inspiration. If you've missed the others, scroll down the previous posts for some jaw dropping projects. As the entire team has created beautiful chalkboard projects for CHA 2014, there's more to come so stay tuned.

 

For my chalkboard paint altered item, I found an old wood frame/plaque type item at a local thrift shop. It looked circa 1980 and had definitely seen better days. The entire surface was first primed with a black gesso and then coated with chalkboard paint.

The center of the frame is filled with some of Maya Road's most delightful trims. While the chalkboard look is often black and white, it was fun to see how pops of color looked against the black surfaces.

The center of the design is my favorite part and is a modern take on vintage with lots more color and layered embellishments. The frame holds a little bouquet of posies and bling. It's laid on top of a paper covered chipboard butterfly and a wood doily that has also been painted with chalkboard paint.

The Quality of Art is Measured by the Mess You Leave Behind

Hi everyone! This is Karen, back with another layout! 

For this layout, I wanted to experiment with being messy. I am not usually a 'messy' scrapbooker but I had these photos of my kids playing with paint and I loved the messiness of it all and wanted the layout itself to echo the photos and sentiment. So I started with spraying a bunch of different colors halfway through my layout and letting them drip to the bottom. I then created my page on top of the result. Here's what I ended up with:

I know it's an explosion and chaos of color and layers and things swirling all over the place, but I love it anyway. 

Here's a closer look at the  mess. I just decided not to worry too much and have fun with it and add colors everywhere. I then used black thread to stitch and add layers and texture.

Monthly Mini

Hello!  So glad to have you stop by to check out my project.  I LOVE this mini that I made for the CHA summer show in July.  I have to admit though that when I start mini books, I am completely overwhelmed.  Where to start, what will the subject be, etc etc ... but doesn't Maya Road just have the cutest ones ever?!!

I used the 5 Ring Tab Album.  I eliminated a couple of the rings when I created the album because well, like I said I get overwhelmed.  I always know that those rings are gonna jsut get in my way because the book will be bulging at the seams, looking like it's ready to explode!  :-)

Notice the pretty new Alterable Crochet Trim that was released for CHA summer on the photo above!  Just perfect. You can see all of the new trims, flowers and embellishments HERE on the Maya Road Company Blog.

Yeah, tha's as far as I can get it to "close".  

I decided to have this mini be a monthly Quote or thoughts book that I can add some journaling to if I want.  I have a thing for quotes and words.  I'm sure that I'm not alone in having a Pinterest board with many.

I did some  machine sewing on several of the pages then added watercolor to the inside of the stitching.  I used lots of Maya Road chipboard and miscellaneous trinkets.  On these pages are a Alterable Wood Bingo piece, a Kraft Journaling Tag, a Metal bird Clip, a Velvet Pleat flower, Trinket Pins, the Ornate Vintage Butterfly stamp, pink Zipper Trim, yellow Tulle Trim, a white Transparency Clock, and Chipboard Mixed Blossoms that I painted up and layered onto the page.

I used the black Gingham Tape throughout the album.  I like how it adds some nice contrast to the other colors.

I almost forgot to mention that I used several of the Kraft Vintage Edge Envelopes.  They were painted white, distressed and then I added some of the machine sewing to them also.  They've sort of become a staple in my mini albums these days.  Just can't get enough of them.

More cleear stamps, chipboard and trinket pins...Maya Road has the best products for layering.

rise and shine altered canvas hip bag

Hi, Roadies! Happy Friday! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far! I'm dropping in with a fun altered project that I created using the canvas hip bag! I love the canvas products, since they give me lots of flexiblity with mists, inks, and stamps.

To create the background burst I just cut three wedge shaped pieces of cardstock, and laid them on the front flap of the bag with the smaller portion of the wedge leading to the corner. I then spritzed the bag generously with hydrangea blue maya mist. Once the blue mist dried, I laid random pieces of cardstock over it to keep the colors from mixing, and spritzed with sun yellow maya mist. I love the imperfection of the splatters, and filled vs. blank spaces it created.

After the misting, it was all about the layers. The burlap trim is attached to the underside of the flap. And the blue flower is created with sea blue zipper trim.

I altered the wooden tree branch with black ink, and the bird with White Out Maya Mist. I attached all of my accent pieces using hot glue, so that they'd be extra sturdy.

Wreath Inspiration: Girly Girl

Hello there, Roadies! MandyKay here to share a soft girly wreath with you. If you're the kinda girl that loves pink and a little bling, this could be the wreath for you! And its neutral enough to use it all year long, if you'd like.

I started my wreath out by wrapping a foam wreath with some white yarn, then randomly wrapping some Blackberry twine on top of that. From there, I started layering up my flowers. I always begin with my larger flowers. So the Houndstooth Licorice Winter Rose and the Smoke Burlap Rose were added first. Then, I rolled up some flowers with my Zipper trims in Cloud White, Midnight and Bubble Gum Pink. It didn't feel complete so I, tucked in a couple of the White Velvet Pleat Flowers and a couple flowers made with the Earl Grey Tu-Tu Tulle and Licorice Black Tulle Pleat Trim to round out my cluster. To add a bit of shimmer and bling to my flowers, I used some Pale Pink Pearl Ball Trinket Pins, a few Clear Jewels, a Raspberry Bead, a Vintage Round Pearl Pin, and a Pearl Butterfly pin. And to finish the whole thing off, I created leaves with some Paper Twine cording.

To create that little leaf shape, cut off a desired lenght of the Carnation Paper Twin Cording and while holding tightly to the very end, untwist the twine til you are able to pull it apart, into the shape you want.

One last Ode to Winter...

I know... we are all tired of it.  Most of us have had more than enough of the snow and cold and are ready for Spring!  (I think that I just heard today that there are only 20 more days until Spring... yay!!)   I'm ready to do the countdown, but that doesn't mean that I don't love creating with the photos and colors of winter.  I mean, who doesn't love a wintery stamped image or a glittery white wood snowflake?  Maya Road has the best things to use for all of your winter layouts, mini albums and projects.

I made this using the Landscape Binder with tabbed pages album.  Such a sweet little book that you can stuff full of Maya Road embellishments.


On the front I made a snowman using the Alterable Wood Buttons that I painted white and topped off with some clear crackle medium and glitter. The houses are from the Welcome Home Chipboard set and of course there plenty of the Vintage Wood Snowflakes both here and throughout the album.



On each of the pages I used words from the Art Journaling Words Clear Stamp set. 

I love the Sea Blue Zipper Trim with the snowflakes, the reds and the glitter so I also added the color to some of the chipboard pieces like the Hexagons.  The Let It Snow stamps were made using white embossing enamel.



The Red Velvet Pleats add a nice pop of color to the pages as does the Gingham Trims in apple Red and Licorice black.

As always I use lots of Trinket Pins and a Vintage Wood Spool or two.

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

Hi Roadies! Julia here today. Have you been out and about lately? I'm seeing all kind of lovely yellow popping up in the mall. I'm especially partial to the yellow and grey combo and decided to bring a little sunshine to a couple card projects to brighten my day. I turned to some pretty patterned paper to create both cards and changed up the Maya Road embellishments for two different looks.

My first card is fun and cute. I just love creating with these sunshiney chipboard pieces. To make this card extra happy, I added a pop of red.

The chipboard shapes were easy to cover with patterned paper for a sweet, printed look. Another quick way to alter chipboard is seen in the red umbrella. It's colored in with an alcohol based marker and then covered with a liquid crackle glaze.

While some of Maya Road's embellishments are super cute, some are very elegant and many of them work for a myriad of styles. Using the same paper and color combo, I've created a very pretty and elegant card design that will be perfect for many occasions.

Both of these cards use the new Card Sentiment Words  stamp set that covers almost every occasion you can think of.

I created some sweet little button blossoms by adhering a rhinestone to the center of each button.

Memory box Mini Album

Hi Roadies,

Angella here from the land down under, 

Roadies today I am going to show you how I created the Memory box mini album I created for Winter 2013 CHA, I created the box using the 8 x 8 binder book .

 

But firstly the story behind the Memory box, last Oct 2012 I had my first international trip to America , for Artistic Journey at the Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie TX .  I got to meet so many new friends  and meet Lisa and Dina from the DT, and of course a catch up with  Caroline Maya Road.

I had the best time and I wanted to record my trip with a special album, and a special tribute to the ladies from the Crafty Scrapper. The ruler that forms the sides and bottom is from one of the little vintage shops in the area., thanks to Dina for introducing me to the vintage shops. I did return with very heavy luggage.

I have photographed the project in raw so you get a better view of contructing. So firstly cover your binder and pages in desired pattern paper.

 

Firstly remove 2 chipboard pages from the binder Album, cut yourself  a peice of paper 8x6 inches.

you can use any pattern paper or mulberry paper etc.  Lay you paper down on a flat surface, lay your 2 chipboard pages together -top end to top end - but leave a small gap as you want the paper to form as a  hinge. Glue paper in place .

Using a cropadile or a similar tool make 2 holes on each side of your stand, about halfway down from top.

tread twine through the holes this will  give your stand stability. adhere  the ends of the twine on one side of the  stand.

Using strong glue ahere your stand to back base of your binder

Roughly measure the twine when you are happy how you want your box to stand. tie and adhere Wooden Mini Clothes pegs in place

Now to make your box within the binder, you can use a wooden ruler as I have or strips of very thick chipboard. cut to size. 2 lenghts at 8.1/2 inches and 1 lenght at 8 1/4 inch , my ruler is 1 inch high

adhere in place with very strong glue, you can use some small nails to tack in place as well for stability.  

then you can attach some legs if you wish!

Decorate with Maya road Embellishments, to make a gorgeous show peice.

I have also used some loose pages from the 5x7 binder tab album just for some interest in the project.
