A Sweet Hello

Ready for some fresh Hello Actually Kit inspiration? Here's a brand new card design using the Hello Actually Kit and the coordinating digital cutting files. While the digital cutting files work great with this kit, don't dismay if you don't have a digital cutter. There's tons of inspiration using this kit that doesn't call for one. We've used three of the Hello Actually digital cutting file designs on this card project. A die cut journaling card, the rolled roses and accompanying leaves. If you haven't downloaded these FREE digital files yet, check them out here... Hello Actually Digital Cutting Files.

To create this card...

1. Die cut the digital cutting files from the light blue print, small yellow print, the green hello print and the yellow/blue floral print. Note: You'll have leftover die cuts to use on another project.
2. Adhere the blue, yellow and blue/yellow floral die cut journaling cards horizontally along the left side of your white card base.
3. Loop the green paper twine into a double circle. Adhere layers together at one point and adhere to the card.
4. Starting with the outside of the spiral, create rolled roses by tightly winding the paper around a toothpick. Apply hot glue daub onto circular center piece. Allow rose to slightly unwind and adhere to hot glue. Adhere to card front.
5. Adhere leaves.
6. Tie twine into a bow and adhere. Insert star trinket pin.
7. Color the hi chipboard pieces with a permanent or alcohol based marker. Adhere to card.

Digital Die-Cutting and the Hello Actually Kit

We're back today sharing another card created with the Hello Actually Classic Card Kit. We love this kit for it's fun fresh colors and fun and trendy goodies. With each Classic Card kit comes free digital cutting files and this card combines both kit & cutting files.

 

Each digital cutting file is specially designed to coordinate with it's kit. The Hello Actually kit comes with digital cutting files for a pinwheel, rolled flower, leaf, mini journaling card and two script sentiments. For today's card we've used the pinwheel image and cut it three times in the digital cutting machine. After cutting out the square shaped pinwheel, simply fold one corner to center from each of the triangle flaps and adhere.

You may have noticed the sweet little flower centers in the center of each pinwheel. These are actually red flower pins from the kit and have the pin section broken off. You can do this by twisting the pin back and forth or cutting it with wire cutters.

You also get a peek at the sweet Hello Actually stamp set in the form of one of its sentiments stamped in the top right corner of the card design. To the bottom, a wire hello clip makes for both a great sentiment and accent all at the same time. Finally to tie it all together, the panel is wrapped with some of our wonderful Maya Road Twine Cording which is one of the many trims found in the kit.

Using PNG Digital Cutting Files in the Silhouette & Cameo

 It's very quick to change solid image PNG files to be able to use them in the Silhouette and Cameo digital cutting machines. Maya Road Classic Card Kits offers free digital cutting files along with each kit release. These are fun files that enhance each kit and can be used unlimited times. The digital cutting files come in two file formats. An SVG file option that works great in the Cricut and various other machines and a PNG file option that works well for use in the Silhouette and Cameo Digital Cutting Machines.

Today we have a tutorial to share with you on how to use the PNG files in the Silhouette Studio program. We've included lots of screen shots for you. Don't be dismayed, this is just to break it down and make the process very simple. It's very quick to do! One thing to note is that by clicking on the images, you can enlarge them to see the detail better.

 

Download and save the png file to your computer in an easy to find folder.

Open your Silhouette Studio program on your computer. Click on File, then click on Open. Your screen should look something like the image above. In the pop-up window, go to the Files of Type selection area and click on it for file options. Select the png file option to view the correct files. Navigate to the folder where you saved the png file after downloading it. Select OK.

Note: At this point I resized the images a little bigger for this project. One of the great things about digital cutting files is you can cut them in many sizes. This is not necessary however. One thing to note with this particular cutting file is that it is quite detailed so it would be best not to make the cutting file smaller.

Next, go to the top right of your screen (follow that red arrow in the image) and click on the Open Trace Window button. It looks like a blue clover with a yellow border.

 

 Click on Select Trace Area in the pop up window. Then select and highlight the cutting file with your mouse. Your screen should look like the above image.

Select Low Pass Filter in the right pop up window. Adjust the Threshold slider until image is fully yellow but does not lose detail.

 

In the Apply Trace Method box, click on Trace. You can then select the original black file and move it to the right. You should see red traced lines which are the cutting lines. Delete the original file by clicking on delete on your keyboard when the file is selected.

Click Send to Silhouette button. Follow the instruction in the pop-up window to the right. Apply paper to cutting mat and click on Cut.

We're back with peek number 4 of the Hello Actually Classic Card kit. It's a peek at another of our card design samples and you'll see some fun things we hadn't shared yet.
